Dead Tube

Everything About Fiction You Never Wanted to Know.

Dead Tube is a 2014 manga.

Tomohiro is a 16-year-old student responsible for the Film Research Club at his school. One day a cute girl of the same age from his school, Mai Mashiro, makes a weird request for him: film her the entire time, never stopping, for two days. Tomohiro follows that order to the letter, even filming Mai when she's sleeping. However, in the second day, when Tomohiro is filiming Mai having sex with a guy, she brutally murders her sexual partner. Tomohiro, that until then found the idea of filming sex "boring", has a erection seeing this.

Written by Mikoto Yamaguchi, the same author of Maken-ki!, and drawn by Touta Kitakawa. Serialized on Akita Shoten's Champion Red Ichigo.

Tropes used in Dead Tube include:
  • Asshole Victim: The guy who Mai kills in the first chapter bullied Tomohiro in the past.
  • Fanservice: When there's not blood or other pieces of the body covering them, the female bodies are nice to look at.
  • Fan Disservice: Mai's naked body? Good. Mai's naked body covered with blood? Not good.
  • Jaw Drop: Saki's mouth opens and remains like that for quite sometime after Mai says Tomohiro is her lover.
  • Karma Houdini: Those who win Dead Tube contests get away with their crimes with the losers assuming their guilt and going to prison.
  • Luminescent Blush: Mai's face flushes at Tomohiro's accusation of her being "kinky".
  • Mood Whiplash: The tone of chapter 1 seems more fit for an ecchi story until we see blood splash on Tomohiro's face.
  • Nightmare Fetishist: Tomohiro feels sexual excitement from seeing Mai killing.
  • The Three Faces of Eve: Mai is the sexy one, Sanagi is the more serious and closer to Tomohiro, making her the wife, and Saki is the shy one who Tomohiro is the more protective of, making her the child.
  • Villain Protagonist: Mai is a remorseless murderer killing for the thrill of it and Tomohiro is a guy letting her get away with it. No matter who you think is the protagonist, both are bad.
