Dishonored

Everything About Fiction You Never Wanted to Know.

Dishonored is a 2012 stealth-based game set in an alternate world resembling Steampunk Victorian London, with gameplay resembling a mix of Thief, Deus Ex and BioShock, with an artstyle resembling Half-Life 2. A sequel, Dishonored 2, was released in 2016. On 2017, a standalone title, Dishonored: Death of the Outsider was released.

You play as Corvo Attano, bodyguard to the Empress of the Isles, the land in which the game is set. Unfortunately, the Empress is killed by an unknown murderer at the beginning of the game. Corvo is framed by the corrupt Lord Regent and is set to be executed for the Empress' murder. While he is in prison, a deadly rat-born plague kills half of the population of the capital city of the Isles and the setting of the game, Dunwall. But before Corvo is executed, a mysterious supernatural being called The Outsider appears to Corvo and gifts him his Mark, granting Corvo the ability to use magical powers. Corvo escapes from prison and quickly joins a resistance movement as a Professional Killer in order to take revenge upon the Lord Regent and his corrupt and villainous government.

Tropes used in Dishonored include:
  • Bald of Evil: Burrows and Campbell are both bald and responsible for the empress' death and frame Corvo for her assassination.
  • Clear My Name: Burrows and Campbell admit framing Corvo wasn't part of the plan but, since he was there, they decided to pin the blame on him anyway so someone gets the blame for the assassination of the Empress.
  • Disc One Final Boss: Once Corvo defeats the Lord Regent, his own allies turn on him and after surviving their assassination attempt he has to go against them.
  • Heroic Mime: Corvo don't talks one word. Considering the game is heavily based on choices, this was probablya choice for the developers to ensure he looks like a blank slate for the players to draw.
  • Too Good for This Sinful Earth: The Empress seems like a kind ruler which wants the best for her people and is reluctant to a suggestion of the Royal Spymaster to execute people affected by the plague, and loves her daughter. She gets killed in less than ten minutes after the beginning of the game depending of how quick you are.
  • Well-Intentioned Extremist: How Campbell and Burrows justify their actions.
