The Doom Slayer

Found sealed away inside a temple in in Argent D'Nur in Hell, he wakes up to find out that yet another demonic invasion by Hell has begun, and it's up to him to rip and tear them apart.

Implied via Broad Strokes to be the canon hero of the classic Doom games and by extension Doom 64.

Tropes exhibited by this character include:
  • Badass
    • Heartbroken Badass: According to his backstory, he was the leader of a group of fellow badasses he fought demons with, and all but him is now gone thanks to the demons. He's also seen a ton of death and destruction over a very, very long time, and he obviously has yet to become numb to it.
    • One Man Army: This is one of the main reasons the demons are terrified of him.
    • Sealed Badass in a Can: The opening quote just before he wakes up spells out he was intended to be such while sealed and that if he ever had to be unleashed, that meant he was needed very badly.
    • Sealed Good in a Can: Not only is he the only thing willing and able to kill the demons, it's also implied he's blessed by God himself.
    • Sociopathic Hero: Downplayed, believe it or not. While he's a very violent kind of guy and his mental processes revolve around killing demons basically all the time, he clearly thinks Hayden is full of it whenever he goes off about how human progress was worth all the dead bodies the Doom Slayer keeps finding and Hayden is well aware how disgusted the Doom Slayer is with the callous exploitation of Hell as a resource, especially given the consequences.
  • Blood Knight: Obviously enjoys fighting demons, though not necessarily the fact he has to.
  • Broad Strokes: It's left vague as to whether he really is the original Doom hero, though his backstory does not rule this out, and even matches up disturbingly well with the canon ending for Doom 64.
  • Cuteness Proximity: He seems to really like the Marine action figures, even to the point of giving them fist bumps.
  • Full-Frontal Assault: You start the game with him naked on a table as he has to break free of the bonds holding him there and find the Praetor Suit. In-between he's kicking demon ass in the process.
  • Genius Bruiser: He's quite intelligent, as Hayden notes, adapting to various technology in no time flat despite having been sealed away for a long time, but Hayden also notes the Doom Slayer's intelligence, while considerable, is generally limited towards answering the question "How does doing X help me kill demons?", mostly because that's the only question he wants answers to.
  • Good Is Not Nice: The Doom Slayer is too pissed off at the whole situation around him to relax, and since demons are his personal Berserk Button, the whole game is him venting that rage against the demons.
    • We do get indications, however, that he otherwise would be pretty pleasant to be around, especially when he stops on occasion to linger on a scene where someone died brutally (especially when Hayden casually brushes off their deaths in the background, implying the Doom Slayer has much more respect for their deaths), and he apparently likes the action figures he can find, even giving one a fist bump.
  • Grievous Harm with a Body; Some of his glory kills involve beating enemies to death with their own limbs.
  • Talking to Himself: The load screens past the intro often read like his internal monologue.
  • The Dead Have Names: Not said, but the sentiment is clearly obvious whenever Hayden glosses over the dead people in conversation, to which the Doom Slayer responds by continuing to give the bodies a long, hard look, clearly feeling their lives meant more than Hayden thinks they did.
  • Super Strength: As seen in the intro, he rips himself free of reinforced bonds on a table in the intro using little more than his own, non-Praetor Suit enhanced strength.

Samuel Hayden

Tropes exhibited by this character include:
  • Cyborg: His brain was transplanted to a robot body to keep him from dying of brain cancer.
  • Lack of Empathy: He is extremely casual about all the dead and the chaos that caused their deaths. He accepts blame for it, but even in this he does so only because it's logical to do so. This may be explained in part by his no longer being entirely human.
  • Obviously Evil: Hayden's cold monotone and lack of empathy towards the loss of human lives clearly brands him as someone to not be trusted.
  • Robot Buddy: He's not a friend per se, but he's the closest to this trope as he can get as his entire body save parts of his former human brain are in a robot body and he's one of the very few beings not trying to kill you.
  • Too Dumb To Live: The Doom Slayer makes it very obvious he feels this way about Hayden, especially anytime Hayden insists exploiting Hell is a good idea. To his credit, he does concede the Doom Slayer has a point, at least From a Certain Point of View.

Olivia Pierce

Tropes exhibited by this character include:
  • Cyborg: An unfortunate, Gone Horribly Wrong version. Soon after working for the UAC, she was diagnosed with a degenerative condition that would render her permanently wheelchair bound, unless she got cybernetic limbs. She opted for the latter, but suffered constant pain from using them, and she was so afraid painkillers would dull her mind she refused to blunt the torment for a moment, essentially living in constant agony.
  • Expy: Essentially Malcom Betruger, genderbent edition.

VEGA

Tropes exhibited by this character include:
  • Voice with an Internet Connection: It's a sentient AI that can not only interface with all UAC systems, it can also communicate with the Doom Slayer via the comm links of the Praetor suit.
