Guardians of the Galaxy (film)/YMMV
These things about Guardians of the Galaxy (film) are subjective - not everyone will agree with all of them.
- And You Thought It Would Fail: Before the film came out, many people thought it would be a flop for Marvel. Even Amanda Seyfried turned down the role of Gamora due to this.
- Awesome Music: The entirety of the Awesome Mix Vol 1 cassette is filled with this. It has great '60s-'80s nostalgia.
- Ensemble Darkhorse:
- Thanos played by Josh Brolin made a great first impression for those who were waiting for Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame.
- The Collector stole the museum scene nicely with his charm.
- Yondu's charisma has helped reel in fans and got an even bigger role for Vol. 2.
- First Installment Wins: Some people prefer this over Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 because of the simpler plot, freshness and fun feel. It is also considered one of the better MCU films.
- Fountain of Memes:
- Thanos is highly quotable just like in his other appearances.
- Groot's simple catchphrase had caught on for any viewer.
- Funny Aneurysm Moment: Meredith Quill said to Peter that his father was like an angel. That's actually far from it.
- Harsher in Hindsight:
- Rocket said that he hasn't got that long of a lifespan. In Infinity War, he survived the Snap.
- Yondu quipped that Quill's father is a jackass. By Vol. 2, he was exactly right. It also makes Meredith Quill's death harder to watch.
- Hilarious in Hindsight:
- Gamora and Rocket bickering is funnier now that Zoe Saldana and Bradley Cooper are exes.
- Korath not recognizing Star-Lord's name in the beginning but recognizing it at the end is funny now that the film made the characters well-known.
- One-Scene Wonder: Howard the Duck appearing at The Stinger caught fans by surprise and for great reasons.
- Signature Line: "We are Groot."
- They Wasted a Perfectly Good Character: Some reviewers thought that the Collector was underutilized.
- Trailer Joke Decay: The "What a bunch of a-holes" quote was heard in several promotions it didn't feel funny in the final film. However, Quill flipping the bird was censored in those promotions.
- What Do You Mean It's Not for Kids?: Just because it has a talking raccoon and is from the writer of two Scooby-Doo movies doesn't mean it's generally family-friendly. There's cursing, sexual humor and an intergalactic villain that is like a terrorist.
