Actor Allusion: In the end of the movie, Clem has adopted the name Gert B. Frobe, named after the actor who played the titular Bond villain in Goldfinger. Christopher Walken, who played Clem/Gert, has also played a Bond villain, namely Max Zorin in A View to a Kill.
The Danza: Kid Rock plays a character named Robby. (Kid Rock's real name is Robert.)
Hey, It's That Guy!: Joe's father is Virgil "Gus" Grissom.

- Chris Farley's brother Kevin plays a cop.
The Other Marty: Joe Dirt's parents were originally played by Roseanne Barr and Gary Busey, but the director felt Roseanne's star power, in particular, was too distracting. So their scenes were reshot with Caroline Aaron and Fred Ward.
Playing Against Type: David Spade playing the nice guy, for once.
Typecasting: Averted; most of David Spade's characters are snarky male secretary types. In this film he plays a loveable idiot.
