Laurence John Fishburne III is an American actor, playwright, director and producer. He is best known for his role as Morpheus in the Matrix trilogy.

One of his early roles was Cowboy Curtis on Pee-wee's Playhouse, as well as having a role in Apocalypse Now, where he started at age 14 playing an 18 year old soldier. The film was in Development Hell for so long that he actually became 18 during filming.

He was the first black man to play the title character in a film adaptation of Othello. He also portrayed singer-musician Ike Turner in the Tina Turner biopic What's Love Got to Do with It?. Pity that women gave him the evil eye for years because of the last one.

Currently married to Gina Torres, famed for her roles in Firefly and Justice League Unlimited.
