• Badass Decay: Sabine after Clover hits him with a car while he was frozen solid. Also Ezra could move buildings with his mind in book two, but in book three, the biggest thing that he can control is grass with which he kills Sabine. This is Badass Decay for them both. Justified with Ezra though because he uses the power of dreams and dreams are weakening.
• Complete Monster: Justified with Ezra because he is main of pure hatred. Played straight with Elton Thumps.
• Crack Pairing: Geth with Phoebe is canon.
  • It can be argued that Leven with Winter is this.
• Designated Hero: Leven. He takes a key, which causes the BigBad The Dearth to be unleashed, can be a Jerkass a lot, and never really does anything to save the day.
• Ensemble Darkhorse: Dennis and Ezra, Tim Tuttle, Janet's wisp, Osck, and maybe even Farrow in book 2 and the boulder in book 3.
• They Wasted a Perfectly Good Plot: The Secret to killing sycophants dies a few pages in to book three.
  • Ezra kills Sabine in book 3 before the former Big Bad could make some sort of triumphant return.
  • In book 2, The Whispered Secret, character Farrow could have been a very interesting recurring character if he hadn't turned out to be just a bunch of Tharms.
• What an Idiot!: Leven giving the Secret the key to the Dearth, the Big Bad
• Villain Decay: Sabine has died about six times by now as Clover puts it.
