- In one of wrestling's great ironies, his bookers had him go by Steamboat instead of his own given last name because he bore a strong resemblance to an older wrestler named Sam Steamboat. This, however, came about because Ricky himself was such a natural babyface that his bookers didn't believe the fans could get behind anyone surnamed Blood.
