Screeching Stop
If a cartoon character stops suddenly, there will be puffs of smoke and a sound akin to car brakes. This will occur even if said character is hovering or flying, because it's just funnier that way.
Their legs will be in front of their body.
Often comes at the end of a Scooby-Dooby Doors scene.

- The Greatest American Hero. The first time Ralph Hinkley used his super-suit to run super-fast, he was not only accompanied by a train-like "chugga-chugga-chugga" as he ran, but when he tried to stop, it was accompanied by a Screeching Stop. And he was running on gravel.
Video Games
- In Super Mario Bros 3, Mario produces that noise whenever trying to change the running direction quickly.
Web Comics
- In Chasing the Sunset a pixie did this... in the air.
Western Animation
- Scooby Doo, frequently.
- Johnny Bravo, just as frequently.
- Cow and Chicken.
- A variant in Futurama: Hovering cars can and will screech to a halt.
- Also the flying Time Machine from Meet the Robinsons.
- Looney Tunes, Merrie Melodies, and MGM cartoons had this thrown in whenever appropriate.
