Basic Trope: A place, object, or person is described with, well, a description, rather than a name.

  • Straight: The Hero is only known as The Swordsman Without A Title, while the Big Bad's title is He Who Rules The Wastelands.
  • Exaggerated: After The Swordsman Without A Title obtain The Katana That Glitters Under The Moonlight from The Library of Patterns Most Heroic, s/he left for The Wasteland Roamed By A Thousand Demons to seek for The Throne Never Graced By The Goddess, where He Who Rules The Wastelands now bides his time.
  • Justified: True Name rule is in full effect, it's only wise to hide one's own true name.
    • The Swordsman did something dishonorable in the past, and was stripped of his title. Now, his name is a taboo on the kingdom, and anyone that tries to refer him as such must receive a severe punishment.
  • Inverted: There is a very bizarre monster that must be precisely described before any meaningful conversation about it can begin, but people call it "The Rabbit".
  • Subverted: Halfway in the story, The Swordsman gives away his name to his comrades. It's Bob.
  • Double Subverted: ...which in The Swordsman's native tongue, means roughly "He Who Is Without A Title".
  • Parodied: The Swordsman Without A Title Worthy of Bragging fights He Who Rules The Wastelands While Clutching His Terrible Rod, saves The Princess More Beautiful Than All Other Princesses Combined.
  • Deconstructed: All the difficulties associated with having no legally identifiable name is presented in the story.
  • Reconstructed: Eventually, the liarslawyers settle down with writing "The Swordsman Without A Title" on the papers.
  • Zig Zagged: ???
  • Averted: People have normal names (for in-universe definition of normal); like, Aerith or Bob or Chiaki.
  • Enforced: Increasing word count for the story.
  • Lampshaded: "How about I just call you SWaT-kun?"
  • Invoked: Bob insists to be called The Swordsman Without A Title in the hope of evading emphatic black magick from his sorcerer adversaries.
  • Exploited: After finding out that the method in the Invoked above works, Bob constantly change his name in the style of this trope to avoid having any name associated with him.
  • Defied: In a world where it's common for any significant figure to have names in the style of this trope, Bob insists that he be called by the name given by his parents: Bob Trope.
