Welcome to the wiki

And thank you for your contributions.

However! In the future when uploading images, please try to follow these guidelines:

  1. Give the file a descriptive name before you upload it, not a series of letters and numbers.
  2. Put a brief description of the file in the summary box. If you do nothing else put the URL where you got it from. Twice in the wiki's history we've had events where we've lost images. This will help us recreate your work if it happens again.
  3. Always choose a license. Always. If you don't know what license is most appropriate, "Fair Use" is almost always safe. In the past, some other new contributors were unable to find the licenses to choose one. They are in a dropdown cryptically labeled "Licensing", right under the block of light blue buttons that insert markup for you.
  4. Add Categories, which are located below the Licensing. Always add a category for the work the image comes from. And if the image is for a trope page, add a category for the trope. Adding categories is easy. Click the blue plus sign. Type in the name. If it already exists on the wiki, the tool will find and complete it -- or at least offer you the possible matches it's found. Then hit the "OK" button.

Thank you!

@WENth100: We've noticed that you've once again uploaded an image -- File:Project Wingman.jpeg -- lacking any of the information listed above, especially and most importantly the mandatory selection of the license by which we may make use of the image. It doesn't matter that it's only on a page in your sandbox at the moment, this information is required by both wiki rules and copyright law. If you do not add license information to this image within 48 hours -- by 11 PM EST 8 December 2020 -- we will be forced to delete the image in order to protect the wiki from legal liability.

If you need more information and guidance than the message above provides, please see the page All The Tropes:Uploading and Adding an Image to a Page.

Please respond in this thread to acknowledge that you have seen these instructions and will comply. Failure to reply may result in a temporary non-punitive block to your ability to edit until you do reply.

Thank you.

@Looney Toons is being generous here. I would have deleted the image immediately and without warning.

A link to the image source is good, yes, but it is not the information we are legally required to have. If you cannot add a license -- if you cannot even tell us what it is so we can add the markup because you don't know how -- then the image will be deleted.

I note that you still have yet to reply in this thread. Regardless of what you add to the image page, you are still required to reply here. Failure to do so will result, as I said above, in a tempban. At a minimum. Per All The Tropes:How We Do Bans Around Here, ignoring a mod who is attempting to communicate with you is itself grounds for a tempban. Save yourself the trouble and reply in this thread.

Trying to fix the issue here, this is a negligence on my part. I really don't know what does the license template look like, and I'm not sure which license it's under. (I believe the first option "Fair Use" qualifies here)

WENth100 (talkcontribs)

So I'm trying to re-upload the image, this time adding a license, but no luck.

Looney Toons (talkcontribs)

The fairuse template is simply {{fairuse}}. Just edit the file description and add it to the bottom.

WENth100 (talkcontribs)

Got it, not trying to ignore you BTW. I was hoping to fix it first and then let you know. But I've unable to make edits since last night due to the "Lost of Session Data" error.

WENth100 (talkcontribs)

Alright, it's fixed now.

Looney Toons (talkcontribs)

Yes, I saw. Thank you!

Robkelk (talkcontribs)

As a result of this discussion, the mod team realized that we never actually listed the license templates anywhere that Tropers can see them. We've fixed that now: All The Tropes:List of Image License Templates

Thank you for giving us a reason to do this.

WENth100 (talkcontribs)

Excellent. I'll pay attention to that in the future.
