Because of your consistent good edits since joining the wiki, as well as your willingness to take advice, we're promoted you to autopatrolled, which among other things means your edits will be directly applied to the wiki instead of going into the moderation queue for approval by one of the admins first.

Thank you for joining the wiki community and we look forward to your continuing contributions!

That's okay, I'm only in this for fun. Plus I have mental disabilities so I'm very certain I may end up screwing up again eventually.

Coffee Lover (talkcontribs)

But I'll try not to screw up. If I do, I won't be offended if I get demoted.

Looney Toons (talkcontribs)

You probably won't. The only formal reasons we have for removing autopatrolled membership from a user once granted is if they earn a tempban (see All The Tropes:How We Do Bans Around Here) or it's immediately necessary to protect wiki content (and in the latter case it's likely to be a tempban situation anyway).

If I might offer one suggestion, though... The edits you've been making to Laconic pages, with the reason "Changed it so it doesn't reflect TV Tropes"? That's not necessary. Nearly all our existing laconic pages are covered by the pre-fork licensing and don't need to be changed. Those that aren't are (or ought to be) new pages created here. If there's a genuine instance of copyright infringement that slipped by us, by all means go ahead and fix it. But you don't need to change every laconic page just because it reads the same as the original page on TVT.

Coffee Lover (talkcontribs)

Okay, Oh when the images are restored, does an image from a manga require fair use licensing. I found a good one for Sex God. Don't worry it's SFW.

A simple yes or no will suffice. I suffer from really bad ADHD so I won't be reading that much dialogue.

Update: Nevermind, I saw the damage is really bad so I' won't bother. with the image.

Looney Toons (talkcontribs)

Yes.

For when you can focus long enough for details, because the details are always important and you do need to know them so you don't make a mistake:

"Require" is not the right word. Fair Use/Fair Dealing is always a safe licensing choice, as long as the image is actually used somewhere in the wiki -- it's a kind of default "free pass" written into copyright laws. As long as the image is small and/or low resolution, and is used in a sort of "This is the thing I'm talking about" context (and we're clearly not claiming we own it), we can claim Fair Use (USA) or Fair Dealing (UK). That's a massive oversimplification, but is accurate as far as it goes.

Most of the rest of the other licensing options are for cases of implicit (pretty much all Creative Commons) or explicit (the owner says we can use it) prior authorization. If the manga image was released under Creative Commons, we would want to use the CC license the creator chose, for instance.

Coffee Lover (talkcontribs)

Okay I'll hold onto the manga image I got. And thanks for explaining this way.

Looney Toons (talkcontribs)

You're welcome.

... because the material you added was lifted word-for-word from TV Tropes. This is copyright infringement as the material postdates the fork and TV Tropes' subsequent change of license in 2012. Because All The Tropes and TV Tropes run under different Creative Commons licenses, content created there after 2012 cannot legally be used here without the express written approval of all the editors who contributed to it.

Feel free to rewrite the material in your own words and resubmit it, but we suggest you read our Copyrights policy first.

Finally we strongly recommend that you read All The Tropes:How We Do Bans Around Here. This isn't a threat -- this is the wiki policy strictly controlling how and when user bans can be applied by an Admin. We want you to be aware that unlike TVT, we do not ban users on whims or because we're cranky.

Coffee Lover (talkcontribs)

Oh sorry about that. I didn't even look at it on TV tropes. I'll change it.

Robkelk (talkcontribs)

Thank you.

Coffee Lover (talkcontribs)

I suppose even without looking it would have been very easy to copyright that one with how simple it was.

Coffee Lover (talkcontribs)

Okay try again.

Robkelk (talkcontribs)

That's much better, from a copyright point of view. Thanks for putting in the work to keep us all out of the courts.

Coffee Lover (talkcontribs)

You need not thank me. I'm the one who almost got you into trouble.

... because you put boldface on every single line. I know that TV Tropes does it that way, but All The Tropes has a different Style Guide which asks that boldface be reserved for special occasions where using italics instead aren't suitable. We also let it slide for a few running jokes of long standing.

This is a style thing, not something that we can tempban you over. (That list is here, should you be interested.)

Mods, if I erred, I'm talking about this edit.

Coffee Lover (talkcontribs)

Oh sorry, shall I rework it?

Coffee Lover (talkcontribs)

Oh wait you already fixed it. Sorry.

Robkelk (talkcontribs)

Somebody did, but I wasn't that somebody... Thanks for making the offer.

Coffee Lover (talkcontribs)

Well at least that hard work wasn't wasted. Won't lie, it actually wasn't really easy to find those images, especially SFW hentai images.

Is there a reason you aren't using the boilerplates when creating new pages?

12
Robkelk (talkcontribs)

It's pretty obvious from your laconic pages that you aren't using the new-page boilerplates for them, and thus the "Pages Original to All The Tropes" category isn't being added to them. (You're also continuing the TVTropes error of thinking "unabridged" is synonymous with "verbose", which is fixed in the boilerplate.)

Robkelk (talkcontribs)
Coffee Lover (talkcontribs)

I have been using the boilerplates but they keep resetting on me.

Coffee Lover (talkcontribs)

Well they keep resetting when I use preview.

Robkelk (talkcontribs)

That's very odd. Are you using the visual editor or the source editor? (We know that the visual editor does some strange things sometimes, which is why all the mods use the source editor.)

Coffee Lover (talkcontribs)

It says edit source, but I see no visual or source editor just that.

Maybe I'll just leave the laconics alone.

Robkelk (talkcontribs)

If it says "edit source", then you're probably using the visual editor.

You can change that in your Preferences (the link should be at the top of the screen) - under "Editing", check "Temporarily disable the visual editor while it is in beta". That might fix things for you.

Coffee Lover (talkcontribs)

Cool, I'll do that I want to add YMMV to that really bad hentai I added. Plus I hope to contribute to Resort Boin since that's like super damn empty.

Coffee Lover (talkcontribs)

I also set show preview without reloading the page for good measure.

Coffee Lover (talkcontribs)

I think it keeps happening. I'll try doing copy pastes when I preview to hopefully handle it.

Coffee Lover (talkcontribs)

Nevermind the boilerplates work now, I just made a YMMV for that bad hentai. I could only add Moral Event Horizon but only because that's all I could think of.

Coffee Lover (talkcontribs)

Oh wait I forgot squick. I'll add that too.

Your proposed new page "The Girl in the Library: Until The Pure You Falls From Grace" has been rejected in Moderation...

...because the trope list is marked up with indents instead of bullet points. Given that MediaWiki's bullet markup is exactly the same as PMWiki/TV Tropes' bullet markup, we've made it clear in the various user guides what the proper markup is, and you can check out the right thing to do by looking at the source for virtually any other page on the wiki, it's hard to figure out just where you got the idea that this was the way to do things. However, as we've said more than once in the past to other users, this is something you need to know and do before we'll even consider giving you automoderated status.

Correct the page, resubmit it and it should pass moderation, since it looks like you got everything else on the page right, except for failing to mark up the title drop in the first sentence.

Looney Toons (talkcontribs)

Your revised submission passed moderation, but I still had to make a few cleanup edits to it. When you make your next work page, please review All The Tropes:Works Page Guidelines first -- it should help you get things right on the money.
