Everything About Fiction You Never Wanted to Know.

Basic Trope: A minor character got an important role in adaptations, expansion or sequel.

  • Straight:
  • Exaggerated:
    • In Lovely Trope, Alice never appears in the game and only has her name mentioned during single event. She's datable character in Harem Edition, with subplot exclusive for her route, new CG, theme song, full voice acting dialogue and a prominently featured picture on the box cover.
    • In Troper Quest 1, Bob is a No Name Given castle guard who does nothing except sleeping on his post. He become The Hero in Troper Quest 2.
  • Justified: Alice and Bob are Ensemble Darkhorses.
  • Inverted: Demoted to Extra, Chuck Cunningham Syndrome
  • Subverted: Players never actually see Alice in Lovely Trope. Since everything about her character was add in Harem Edition, Alice is more of a new character with same name.
  • Double Subverted: The artbook of Lovely Trope reveal that Alice's character was already established during early stage of game development, they just never added it to game until Harem Edition.
  • Parodied: Troper Quest 2 has "that rock on doorstep of a certain NPC" as Player Character.
  • Deconstructed:
    • While Alice has a considerable fanbase as a "cute shopkeeper" with little background, her addition in Harem Edition is badly received. As result, Alice become The Scrappy and the remaining fanbase ignore Harem Edition altogether.
    • For the case with Troper Quest, replace "Alice" with "Bob", "Harem Edition" with "Troper Quest", "cute shopkeeper" with "castle guard", and "his" with "her".
  • Reconstructed:
    • While the fandom upset with Alice personality in Harem Edition at first, they end up love her even more thank to all Character Development. The fandom even grow larger since people who ignore her Flat Character like her as well.
    • See Deconstructed 2, but ignore "'cute shopkeeper'" with "'castle guard'".
  • Zig Zagged: ???
  • Averted: Alice doesn't appear in Harem Edition at all.
  • Enforced: See Justified.
  • Lampshaded: "You're now a royal guard!? Why did they promote someone who did nothing but sleep on his post!?"
  • Invoked: ???
  • Exploited: The sequel cashes in on Alice and Bob's unexpected popularity by making them main characters.
  • Defied: ???
  • Discussed:
    • "I never thought you could date the shopkeeper in the update version. She's just minor character in the first game."
    • Some minor NPCs that you talk to have fourth-wall breaking dialogue where they ask Alice or Bob how they can become major characters too.
  • Conversed: ???
