NBC Sitcom (1974-1978) starring Freddie Prinze as Chico Rodriguez and Jack Albertson as Ed Brown (the Man). Their chemistry made the show very popular at the time, debuting in the top ten and staying there for the first two seasons. It was the first US TV series set in a Mexican-American neighborhood.

Tropes used in Chico and The Man include:

• Character Outlives Actor: When Freddie Prinze shot himself in 1977, the producers decided to make the other characters say that Chico had gone to visit his father in Mexico.
• Cousin Oliver: Twelve-year-old Raul appeared early in the fourth season and was adopted by Ed.
• A Day in the Limelight: The later half of season three focused on the supporting characters.
• Remember the New Guy?: Monica, Ed's 18-year-old adopted niece who was introduced at the end of the fourth season.
• Self-Plagiarism: Early in the series, a lot of Chico's part incorporated bits recycled from Prinze's stand-up act.
• Very Special Episode: In a Two-Part Episode in the final fourth season, Chico's death is explained.
