• Abusive Parents: Acheron's desire to keep Simi in a state of perpetual childhood is toeing the line of mental abuse, IMHO.
• Evil Is Sexy: Ohh, yes!!
  • Evil(Stryker) gets it's own book.
• Jerkass Woobie: Nick. Some want to hug him and confort him, and some want to beat the crap out of him.
• Iron Woobie: All the heroes. And some of the heroines.
• Stoic Woobie: Some of the characters take the pain without a word.
• Squick: Simi is adorable when introduced as a baby demon. When she turns out to actually be a sexually mature woman who goes out in Stripperiffic clothing, all the while still speaking like a child? Violent shove from adorable into creepy-as-all-get-out.
• Suetiful All Along : Just about every heroine is initially described from the hero's perspective as "not classically beautiful" or "no great beauty," yet spends the rest of the book being drooled over by most of the men in it.
• They Changed It, Now It Sucks: This troper can't be the only one who got so attached to Nick as the wisecracking, promiscuous, Badass Normal Plucky Comic Relief that she abandoned the series after Seize the Night and refuses to acknowledge canon established thereafter.
  • I have serious problems with Nick's new personality, but the rest of the series is still really worth reading. I usually ignore Nick when he pops up and wait hopefully for an attitude adjustment.
• Unfortunate Implications: Interspecies romances happen way more often than interracial ones, even in cities with large minority populations. Though common in supernatural romances, this becomes extremely jarring in the case of Bride, who is the sort of woman who could probably have found true love years earlier had she simply branched out a bit.
  • Whenever the love between two men is mentioned, Kenyon makes damn sure you know it's absolutely NOT the gay kind, even in cases in which a father-son or fraternal bond has already been well-established in the narration.
  • Kassim, the first (only?) black Dark-Hunter we meet is in a single scene, then dies off-screen.
