These things about Helluva Boss are subjective - not everyone will agree with all of them.

  • Alternate Character Interpretation: A few:
    • Verosika. Yeah, she's a bitch and a slut (both by her own admission), but was it really her fault she and Blitzo broke up? After all, she was in a rehab clinic between their breakup and "Spring Broken", and there's more than one hint in her brief appearances afterwards to make one wonder who dumped who. Blitzo never makes any accusations towards her, only insults. She expands on their relationship during her solo in "OZZIE's" and saying that he was selfish both in and out of bed, breaking her heart in the process. Given's Blitzo's guilty expression, she's completely telling the truth about it.
    • Loo Loo Land's resident Monster Clown, Fizzarolli. He and Blitzo used to be pals when Blitzo worked there, and selfies on Blitzo's phone show that both were pretty happy back then. Whatever happened to make them enemies must have been brutal, and again, Blitzo never actually blames him for it, so there's no way to tell whose fault it was.
      • The later episode "OOPS" confirms this point of view. Blitzo puts all the blame for what happened on himself, and much of their feud was a result of poor communication. Fizz, to his credit, has quite a lot of Hidden Depths and is much less of a "monster" than most Monster Clowns.
    • Striker, the Knight of Cerebus. Yeah, he's a Professional Killer, but so is Blitzo, and while Striker feels no remorse for his mark and has much less understanding of loyalty than the I.M.P.s, he at least doesn't seem to love his job as much as Blitzo does. Striker even makes an honest attempt to sway Blitzo to his side, so is he truly the greater evil?
      • "Western Energy" debunks this badly - he is a cruel sadist and hypocrite, very much the greater evil.
    • Stolas. This guy has a lot of angst for an Overlord of Hell, and while he has power, money, and influence, he doesn't seem to enjoy any of it. He's portrayed as a man in an unhappy, loveless marriage, depressed because his daughter is growing up. The season one finale shows him lonely and sad simply because his wife and daughter are away visiting his in-laws, and then very upset later because Blitzo isn't "in the mood". One has to wonder if he was just a sheltered rich kid who never truly learned to be social, and whether he's a textbook case of Being Evil Sucks.
    • Blitzo himself. While he outwardly suspects Stolas is only using him for sex, there are plenty of signs that he does indeed have feelings for him. Also, while he claims to despise both Verosika and Fizzarolli, he has selfies on his mobile showing him with both of them in happier times, which he has never deleted. Plus the selfie of himself with what appear to be his sister and mother, which actually makes him break down in tears...
      • Partially confirmed when his sister Barbie Wire actually appears.
    • "Unhappy Campers" puts Moxie and Millie's relationship in a new light. Before, they were seen as Sickeningly Sweethearts that could openly talk about their issues, with Moxie using Millie as a reason to become a better husband and demon while keeping Millie grounded. Here, we see their first serious fight; Millie, when Moxie lashes out at her, yells at him for not being supportive for a week after she's spent their whole relationship supporting him. It implies that Millie tires of being a Living Emotional Crutch for her husband, and she's not allowed to be her own person. Even more jarring, Moxie said outright in "Exes and Ohs" that Millie is better than he deserves, so his outburst seemed very out-of-character.
  • Awesome Music: Parry Gripp's songs for the show are fun to listen to.
  • Crosses the Line Twice: One of the I.M.P.'s targets in the pilot happens to be a foulmouthed boy.
  • Draco in Leather Pants: To be frank, everyone in the show - you're supposed to be on their side, even though they're demons and murderers. Some characters who stand out:
    • A lot of fans show a lot more sympathy than scorn towards Verosika, although in all fairness, whether she deserves more of either than Blitzo is debatable. It is implied "Spring Broken" that she and Blitzo both still have feelings for each other and implied there and in "Truth Seekers" their breakup was more his fault.
    • Stolas gets this too, although the show seems to be actively trying to portray him positively, despite the fact that his relationship with Blitzo is technically Sexual Extortion and Stolas is a Demon Lord who is trying to encourage denial of climate change.
  • Evil Is Cool: Duh, that's why it's so popular!
  • Friendly Fandoms:
  • Harsher in Hindsight: The first episode has Moxie fucking up a hit on a homewrecking mother because Blitzo wants to take the shot while she's serving dinner, and says they'll be destroying a family. Moxie has a lot of trauma because his father, a mobster, murdered his mother for the crime of not wanting her son to be killing at a young age and standing up to Crimson.
  • Heartwarming in Hindsight: A lot courtesy of "Exes and Ohs"
    • Moxie tells the family in the first episode that he doesn't want their kids to be killed when they are young and deserve a second chance at life. He knows all too well what it's be like to be inducted into a crime family and not realize what you're doing is evil.
    • "Truth Seekers" features Blitzo getting captured by D.H.O.R.K.S. because he refuses to leave an incapacitated Moxie behind on Earth and carries his unconscious body for a good long while. It's also the same episode where he insists that Moxie doesn't need to call him "Sir" because he's earned the right to use his boss's first name. "Exes and Ohs" reveals that last time Moxie was endangered during a heist gone wrong, his boyfriend left him to take the heat, breaking his heart and his trust. Helped by the fact that Blitzo doesn't trust Chazz in the present and only sleeps with him to figure out his endgame with Moxie, Crimson and Millie.
  • Memetic Mutation: "ZIM SAID FUCK". Whenever Moxxie or another character voiced by Horvitz swears on this show, many fans can just picture Invader Zim or another role by Horvitz saying it.
  • Moral Event Horizon: Lampshaded multiple times during the show considering that we have a protagonist set of assassins:
    • Lyle and his partner crossed it with unethical experiments on children. Even I.M.P. is confused about why freaking angels would want to save him.
    • Striker crosses it when he plans to gouge out a captive Stolas's eyes after Stella calls off the hit. While he enjoyed torturing Stolas, that was on Stella's orders. He was being petty and cruel for no reason except pure sadism.
  • Nightmare Fuel: The entire concept of the series is this. Consider the example given, Bob assumes he safe from Alice, as she's dead and he personally killed her. He has no idea that she can strike at him through an intermediary, and this hold true for anyone who knows with certainty that his hated enemy is dead. And for all their bumbling, the I.M.P.'s do seem to have a decent rate of success...
