Ivan Reitman in 2013

Ivan Reitman (October 27, 1946 – February 12, 2022) was prehaps the best, and certainly the most successful, comedy-film director of the 1970s, 1980s, and 1990s. He's the man who gave Bill Murray his first starring role (in Meatballs) and Arnold Schwarzenegger his first comedy lead role (in Twins). And he's the person who got everybody asking "Who you gonna call?" in 1984.

Born in Komarno, Czechoslovakia, Ivan Reitman grew up in Toronto, Canada. He went on to work with Dan Aykroyd and the Lampoon troupe that included John Belushi, Gilda Radner and Bill Murray... which lead to his first big film, Animal House. And the rest is history.

While he never won an Oscar, Ivan Reitman was appointed to the Order of Canada in 2009 for his film work, and he has stars on both the Hollywood Walk of Fame and Canada's Walk of Fame.
