Pokémon Black 2 and White 2

Everything About Fiction You Never Wanted to Know.

Pokémon Black 2 and Pokémon White 2 are Generation V Pokémon games for the Nintendo DS. Details are scarce at this time, but the games are sequels to the earlier Generation V games, Pokémon Black and White. Featuring an expanded Unova and brand new protagonists, the games take place two years after the first two. A different, new form of Kyurem from the previous games is the mascot of each game, with each game having its own form (Black Kyurem for Black 2; White Kyurem for White 2).

There is a nascent character sheet; please place tropes exclusive to individual characters there.

Tropes used in Pokémon Black 2 and White 2 include:
  • And Now for Someone Completely Different: There are at least two new Gyms, and others, such as Striaton Gym, have apparently been discontinued.
  • Big Applesauce: Just like in Black and White, the Unova region is based on New York City, with a bit of New Jersey thrown in.
  • Cool Airship: This one has appeared in a recent trailer on the official site, it seems to match the boat seen in the animated trailer.
  • Cutting Off the Branches: Some elements of the post-game of Black and White are apparently non-canon, such as the players having the option to capture Kyurem and/or trade it away to someone else, which would implicitly prevent the events of Black 2 and White 2 from occurring.
    • This is the first time[1] that a plot-relevant legendary has been catchable earlier in the series by both series chronology and the games' release dates.
  • Dialogue Tree: This is how the outcome of movies in Pokéwood are decided.
  • Future Spandex: A number of characters wear close-fitting spandex.
  • Joisey: The extended portion of Unova, which includes the new protagonists' hometown, is based around where New Jersey should be. There are at least two other towns in this section, and seemingly at least 2 routes and an island cave.
  • Massive Multiplayer Crossover: Of a sort. A facility in the game has previous Champions and Gym Leaders available to battle.
  • Never Trust a Trailer: The opening cinematic, released as a trailer of sorts, is a very polished anime take on the games, which fans have been clamouring for for ages. There is no series or OVA that corresponds to the cinematic though.
  • No OSHA Compliance: Skyla's gym is guilty for this once again, having Gigantic fans blow the PC around tiny walkways hanging from the ceiling of an Airplane hangar.
  • Numbered Sequel: A first[2] for the handheld main series games. They also manage to follow the "pairing" example set by their many predecessors, resulting in two "2"s.
  • Saved for the Sequel: Some elements of Team Plasma's hooks return, like N's dragon and N himself.
  • Shark Tunnel: These appear in the form of underwater passageways. Mantine can be seen swimming overhead.
  • Time Skip: The games pick up two years after the end of Black and White, the shortest of the series' three known time skips.
  • Toku: Seems to be the majority of Pokewood's output.
  • Updated Rerelease: Averted! For the first time since the series' debut, a main series pair of games is getting a direct sequel instead of a Director's Cut-esque rerelease of the original games.

  2. Pokémon Gold and Silver would have been the true first examples for the handheld main series games, had they retained their Working Title of Pocket Monsters 2: Gold and Silver.
