Silver Sable is a well-known[please verify] female mercenary in Marvel Comics. Originally appearing in Spider-Man's series, she's been both an ally and a foe to the webslinger. She first appeared in Amazing Spider-Man #265 (June, 1985), created by Tom DeFalco, Ron Frenz, and Josef Rubinstein.
Joining the Wild Pack at the age of 17, Silver Sable served as second-in-command until the death of her father, Ernst Sablinova. Based in Symkaria, a tiny country sharing a border with Latveria, the Wild Pack began offering its services internationally under Silver Sable's leadership. Eventually gaining approval from the Symkaria government, the Wild Pack would become one of the country's largest economic contributors.
Comic Books
- Silver Sable & the Wild Pack (1992-1995)
- Sable and Fortune (2006)
Video Games
Silver Sable provides examples of the following tropes:
- Adaptational Villainy In the comics, she's a Mercenary and an Anti-Hero. In The Spectacular Spider-Man, She was a Mafia Princess and the daughter of the villain Silvermane.
- Alliterative Name: Silver Sable & her real name, Silver Sablinova.
- Anti-Hero: Type IV
- Assassin Outclassin': Attempts have been made on her life several times by her ex-husband, the Foreigner; she in turn, has made several attempts on his. Apparently, they both consider this some sort of "game".
- Awesome McCoolname: Her real name is Silvija Sablinova, which is itself pretty cool.
- Badass Normal
- Emotionless Girl: At least she tries to be one. Spider-Man, among others, doesn't buy it, saying in one story that, "There's a whole lot of hurt in that woman."
- Every Man Has His Price: She has, numerous times, convinced Spider-Man to work for her this way; he doesn't much like it, but she pays much better than freelance work for the Daily Bugle does.
- Form-Fitting Wardrobe
- Friend to All Children: She may be a mercenary most of the time, but should a criminal hurt children, she will hunt them down and bring them in (dead or alive) for free.
- The Gunslinger
- Guys Smash, Girls Shoot: Downplayed. She prefers ranged weapons, but any foe who gets close to her will be smashed. Hard. She's pretty good with knives and katanas too.
- Hey, It's That Voice!: Jennifer Hale currently voiced her in video games.
- Jet Pack
- Katanas Are Better
- Knife Nut: Uses the regular kind plus "chakras", custom made shuriken.
- Most Common Superpower
- Private Military Contractors: Or Professional Killers, depending on who you ask.
- Those Wacky Nazis: Originally, she and the Wild Pack specialized in hunting down and apprehending Nazi war criminals, and still do so occasionally. The shift to Private Military Contractor seems to be a result of most her regular quarry dying of old age.
- Sex with the Ex: Did so with the Foreigner once, leading to a pregnancy scare.
- Spy Catsuit: Made of silver-colored fabric, of course.
- Steven Ulysses Perhero: Her parents must have been prophets. The name is even quite fitting, describing her beauty, strength, and cold lack of emotion in two words.
- Superhero Packing Heat: Uses both live ammo and tranquilizer darts, depending on whether she wants her foe alive or not.
- Supreme Chef: Revealed to be one in a What If...? scenario where she and Spider-Man fell in love.
- Unstoppable Rage: If she's angry at someone other than you, get out of her way. Fast. If she's angry at you, run.
- White-Haired Pretty Girl
