Surely we can find something - anything - better than this one. (Source) But if we can't, well...

Looney Toons (talkcontribs)

I like the horse. <grin>

No, that's a great image. Go for it. (Although if for some reason it turns out unusable, I like this one, too.)

Utini501 (talkcontribs)

Both pics are great, but if I were to choose just one I'd go with Rob's.

Robkelk (talkcontribs)

I'm going to declare consensus on the silhouette image, then. (Although we should add the episode that the Sailor Moon image came from as an example, too.)

Josh6243 (talkcontribs)

The silhouette image looks awesome. Go with it.

Robkelk (talkcontribs)

The description is a bit short, but it's serviceable. There's plenty of examples. we've agreed on a name.

On the other hand, it only has one category other than the required ones, and it only has that because I just added it.

Does the page need a category or two more than what it has, or are we ready to kick this out of the nest? I'm willing to say "launch".

Looney Toons (talkcontribs)

I've just added an obvious category. More categories are always good, but I think it's launchable now.

Looney Toons (talkcontribs)

Bumping to solicit more votes one way or the other. Given that we want to get things out of the Workshop, lack of "no" votes may end up being taken as tacit approval to launch...

Umbire the Phantom (talkcontribs)

Voting to launch - do you agree, @Josh6243?

Utini501 (talkcontribs)

I'd say it's ready to launch! Voting yes.

Looney Toons (talkcontribs)

In that case, launching.

Josh6243 (talkcontribs)

Yep. It's ready to launch.

Looney Toons (talkcontribs)

Why is this still in the workshop? Did I somehow do everything but the move? Geeze.

Better Name.

Thanks. I know nothing about martial arts beyond that they exist, so I'll trust your judgment here.

Just add a note to the top of the page for now - we'll fix the title when we move the page from the Trope Workshop to the main namespace.

Umbire the Phantom (talkcontribs)

Not an explicit objection, but I've known the phenomenon mostly by its informal name, and I know flying kicks are somewhat "ubiquitous" in a lot of action-oriented media. Would it still work as a redirect at the least?

Robkelk (talkcontribs)

We can always do redirects.

Should we set the name to "Flying Side Kick" and make "Flying Drop Kick" a redirect, or the other way around? Either way, "Dive Kick" could be a redirect to whichever name we choose for the trope.

Umbire the Phantom (talkcontribs)

Update for you and Josh regarding the name thing - I just made a set of edits that should make the different style of dive kicking easier to reconcile, and I can also find a Wikipedia article to point the trope template towards if you both like.

Umbire the Phantom (talkcontribs)

I'd go with the former personally - the "flying drop kick" to me has the image of a double-footed kick that you'd see with wrestlers and such (e.g. Street Fighter's Alex).

Josh6243 (talkcontribs)

Works for me.

Josh6243 (talkcontribs)

Alright. I did your suggestion. Thanks for the advice.

Utini501 (talkcontribs)

Having been reading this over, I honestly think Dive Kick works as is. It's a short, snappy, name that's fairly self-explanatory and to the point, with the added bonus of rolling off the tongue quite nicely. Like, to me that's the gold standard when it comes to trope names, and I'd rather avoid overly clunky, unwieldly nightmares like "Villainous Aromantic Asexual" or "Really Fond of Sleeping" back on TV Tropes.

Besides, does it have to be a formal martial arts name? I personally don't see any harm in elaborating what its proper name is in the trope description.

Looney Toons (talkcontribs)

If the name is the only thing keeping it from being launched, let's just settle on it. We could put that top-of-page note about the two "real" moves in as a parenthetical in the first sentence, maybe something like "A Dive Kick is our term for any of several similar moves from action-based media -- such as the Flying Drop Kick or the Flying Side Kick -- regardless of whether they are practical combat maneuvers or showy stage combat."

Robkelk (talkcontribs)

Considering that this started because I asked whether Dive Kick was the "real" name of the move, I think that's a good solution.

Looney Toons (talkcontribs)

I'll make the edit then, and hopefully that will start the process of launching this.

EDIT: And done. Feel free to refine it, everyone.
