@Carlb: This is another case where your changes, while generally welcome, are inappropriate. These are the words of other tropers, and if one chooses to identify using a term you think is outdated, then so be it -- you don't get to correct their usage.

Similarly, in 2014 a bot automatically updated that troper's words in a way that made no sense in order to change links to a page which had been renamed, and I have just undone those changes as well for the same reasons.

The rule of thumb to remember here is that if the text is a quote from a work, or it's the expressed thoughts of another person, user or not (as opposed to the unspecific third-person voice of the wiki), do not make changes to fix "outdated" language. Ok?

Thanks.

I agree with Looney Toons here. We don't censor for poor or outmoded choices in words, no matter how distasteful those words might be to some of us.

As another example, we're not going to change the name of our page for Lawerence Hill's award-winning novel to "The Book of African-Americans" because somebody doesn't like the word "Negroes", even in these days when people are finally realizing that Black Lives Matter, because they're not our words to change.

Re-writing other people's words to remove old terms is like pretending that they never used the old terms, and in my opinion that's worse than admitting that they did.

The text which was there before I edited the page was "Being a Transsexualism, the very existence of this trope not so much bugs me as annoys the heck out of me..." which is nonsense. There were also multiple typos which I fixed, and which this reversion put back into the page.

I'm not here to censor. I was just trying to fix more than 500 links due to a page move Transsexualismā†’Transgender. There are still 477 of these left. I'm going to stop here... if someone else wants to deal with this mess, fine, but it's looking to be more trouble than it's worth. Thanks. Carlb (talk) 04:06, 17 June 2020 (UTC)

Of course it is, those were the automated changes which I also undid, back to the troper's original language instead of to the language you'd rather see.

As for typos, well, they can be gotten again later. The page is all of, what, 275 words? It's not like I wiped out an afternoon's work.

And if you want to ragequit because someone undid a single one of your changes, that's your right. A bit juvenile, but your right. Thank you for your efforts to date, though.

And I just went back and put in an intense 30 seconds' effort restoring the typo and spelling fixes you laboriously made the first time around. Whew! I need a rest.
