The Owl House/Trivia

Everything About Fiction You Never Wanted to Know.

  • Ascended Fanon: Fans frequently asked, "Will Luz's palisman be a bat, snake, bird or scorpion?" When String Beans finally hatched, it proved to be a shapeshifter who briefly turned into all four of those animals in quick succession before showing its true form, a teeny-tiny dragon.
  • Fan Nickname:
    • Belos' brother Caleb (whom he murdered) was not officially named until "King's Tide", but seeing as Hunter is a Grimwalker created by Belos using his brother/friend as a model, fans often refer to him as "Caleb" before then, after an alias Hunter used in one episode. "King's Tide" confirmed this was canon, when Belos accidentally refers to Hunter as Caleb after seeing Flapjack on his staff.
    • "Lumity", a fan name for Luz and Amity as a couple.
  • I Knew It!: Season two, speciifcally "Hollow Mind," "King's Tide" and "Thanks to Them," confirmed more than a few fan theories:
    • Emperor Belos is formerly a human named Philip Wittenbane, the first explorer that came to the Boiling Isles before Luz. As shown in "Hollow Mind" and "King's Tide", he had a brother named Caleb who decided to go native, falling for a witch named Evelyn and carving a Palisman named Flapjack. Belos literally stabbed his brother in the back (or maybe in the front in a knife fight) for turning evil, in his mind.
    • The Golden Guard aka Hunter is a clone called a Grimwalker. Turns out that he was a copy of Caleb Wittenbane, one of hundreds that Belos made over the years. Each Grimwalker eventually questioned Belos's authority, which meant he killed them. Hunter himself is very disturbed by this when he finds out he's a replaceable copy of someone Belos murdered, and he has a breakdown.
    • "Thanks to Them" has Masha and Belos himself confirm that Caleb was his brother, and Evelyn the witch convinced Caleb to come to the Boiling Isles and explore a world of magic, leading to the two eloping. Belos also implies that Flapjack belonged to Evelyn and not Caleb when crushing the bird. It sheds light on Belos's obsession with Luz, why he believes that the Boiling Isles corrupted her.
  • Serendipity Writes the Plot: The Collector came about because season three was reduced to three specials. Otherwise, Belos would have remained the main villain throughout the series. Introducing the Collector allowed season two to resolve the main plot while creating new problems, while allowing Belos to still cause trouble.
  • Throw It In: Dana Terrace only found out after the pilot that Luz checked off many of the boxes for having undiagnosed ADHD. She decided to go with it, and part of season one's arc is Luz finding a new way to study magic without giving into her insecurities, and making more friends on the Boiling Isles despite having a Friendless Background at home.
  • What Might Have Been: A deleted scene of the Titan reanimating, this would have been a part of a speech by Belos explaining to his subjects what would occur during the Day of Unity; while this would have clearly been a blatant lie on his part (given what we now know), it is still Nightmare Fuel.
