I think we should rename Near Villain Victory to Eucatastrophe. Specifically, I'm proposing a page move and link rewrite, keeping the current name as a redirect (basically swapping the redirect for the page). I'm actually really sure we should do this, because:

  • The plot doesn't need an actual villain to have this trope -- the trope is really about protagonist doom rather than villain victory. I'm going to throw out the movie All Is Lost as an example of this, which is entirely man vs. nature.
  • Eucatastrophe is the actual word for this trope, as wikipedia will attest.
  • The meaning of the word is actually quite clear once you think about it for 20 seconds.
  • The trope name is more concise and more Tolkien.
  • The site should, in general, not try to fight against the stream with literary terms, because lit crit is kinda what we do.

So the only reason I'm asking here is because I can't see any downside to this and think I might have missed something. Anyone opposed to this?
