QuestionableSanity

Hi Geth,

I got a report from Special:Contributions/2601:246:4603:4379:34b6:699b:e06b:84e2, an IP that is blocked on ATT and they say that their account QuestionableSanity is blocked.

QuestionableSanity is not registered on Miraheze (last ATT edit was in June 2015). I think that this user might be trying to impersonate the real QuestionableSanity (where is (s)he actually? Not aware a new ATT exists?), but it is your call I guess. Please respond as soon as possible.

Thanks,

SPF

Actually, quite sure it's the real one, but do ask why they tried to make an official statement as an admin under an IP posing as an admin.

I blocked them because I found that bizarre and a possible attempt at impersonation, but if it's really QS, they should have waited to do so under their actual account and after speaking with other admins.

If QS has a good explanation for this, let me know and undo the block.

GethN7 (talkcontribs)

Unless QS cannot explain himself or at least promise not to make an admin level announcement without discussion, let him back in. I already undid the IP block.

I'm quite convinced this was a case of misunderstanding and an unintentional faux pas on QS's part, so unless Miraheze has any other reason I can't think of to let him back in, please restore his account to being able to post here again.

The block was the only thing stopping him. We not acted in the matter and they dont have an account.

Hi guys. I'd like to log in instead of posting anonymously, but for some reason the login screen will not accept my username of QuestionableSanity, saying that there is no such user. And I'm pretty sure I'm using the correct password.

I can see why that change may have been worrying, since on any other wiki, it could easily be construed as spreading the seeds for a flame war. But that wasn't my intention.

As you know, I'm strongly opposed to the draconian restrictions that TV Tropes puts on their articles, and changed the restriction on our page strictly on principle, not because I'm actually interested in celebrity gossip.

I believe that ATT's userbase is smart and sensible enough to be able to follow a set of stipulations when adding examples. I realize now that I should have taken the time to discuss it with you first, though.

If possible, I'd like to negotiate a set of rules for the page which are watertight, but not so outright restrictive as No Real Life Period.

Hey, QS. I'm not sure what happened, but your account no longer seems to exist (although your User page and edit history are still here). I'm trying to track down any record of it; the best I can get right now is it might have vanished near the middle of June. You should have pinged us the first time you ran into a problem instead of continuing to work anonymously --- we would have gotten you set back up right away and avoided this. As it is, you'll have to recreate your account and we'll get you all your rights and privileges back.

You can understand why we reacted as we did, I trust? It wasn't so much for the change of policy as for the appearance that it was made by a hit-and-run anonymous editor masquerading as an admin.

GethN7 (talkcontribs)

Alright then. Recreate a new account with the same name as your old one, and if need be the Miraheze admins will try to sync your former edits to it.

However, given the, to be crude, clusterfuck that resulted, I'm afraid I will have to impose at least a month penalty before restoration of your admin bit, unless anyone else has objections to that or believe the time should be longer.

John (talkcontribs)

"Miraheze Admins" being labster to clarify.

Robkelk (talkcontribs)

I have no objections to giving QS admin rights again. I also have no objections to waiting a month to do so.

QuestionableSanity (talkcontribs)

Ah, that's annoying. Oh well, if I think of any administrative tasks within the next month, I'll forward them through Geth.

GethN7 (talkcontribs)

Glad to have you back, QS. I'm imposing the month long penalty because I want to establish a precedent here: Admin level decrees should be done under official admin channels (your admin account) and if they are controversial, like the one you attempted to impose, they should be discussed first.

I bear you no ill will, and I believe your intentions were good at heart, but we established ATT to AVOID admins imposing their will out of the blue like was done on TV Tropes, and while what you did was not an act of malice, it still goes against our ethos, hence the one month penalty.

If a majority of the admins decide at any time to shorten this period or waive it, I will not contest that, and in any event, you will again be granted admin rights at that point, and this incident will be water under the bridge, at least as far as I'm concerned.

QuestionableSanity (talkcontribs)

That makes sense to me.
