Ultraman Leo/YMMV
- Audience-Alienating Premise: This show was so much Darker and Edgier than expected that it may have led to the lowest ratings so far in the franchise (single digits). It may also account for the slight Retool after Episode 13, when Leo began using more energy-based attacks, as opposed to his Bare-Fisted Monk exploits early on.
- Complete Monster: Commander Black wants to take over the Earth, and he'll do whatever it takes to do so. He actually kills off the entire MAC group except Leo in his first appearence! He manages to top himself later by slicing Leo into pieces alive (Ultraman King revived him but still!) and using a little kid to force Leo to let his final monster beat him down. Needless to say, when he gets beaten to death by the kids Gen trained to defend themselves, its well deserved.
- Crowning Music of Awesome: Both theme songs, Gen's training music from Ep. 7 (involves his True Companions throwing boomerangs at him), and the Theme Music Power-Up from Ep. 1 as Leo swooped down to save Seven (reprised in Ep. 22, during Astra's first scene).
- The Determinator / Iron Woobie: Gen, complete with optimism and a big smile...
- Ensemble Darkhorse: Ultraman King and Astra.
- Memetic Mutation: Reoooo! Taichouuuu!
- Narm: Episode 26, featuring a prankster alien (looking a lot like a mutated, evil Teletubby) and a shrunken Leo escaping the alien's clutches and looking for Dan. It got better.
- Nightmare Face: Alien Pressure [dead link].
- Nightmare Fuel:
- Any time children are used as pawns in alien schemes, or when an alien Woobie takes to a human child or mother figure, or even when the aliens are children themselves.
- Alien Pressure.
- Special Effects Failure: More so in this show, due to the 70s oil crisis. That, and budget/schedule overruns in Ultraman Taro.
- Tear Jerker: Many examples, such as Seven's Ultra Eye melting after he attempted to transform back in Ep.1, the death of MAC and Gen's friends, an encounter between Dan and Anne Yuri in Ep. 29, the Ultra brothers' joint beam attack on Leo in Ep. 38, and a few victims of collateral damage throughout
- Villain Decay: From the destruction of Tokyo to the courting of "the most beautiful monster in the universe", Alien Magma lost his edge between Episode 2 and 31.
- The Woobie: Poor Gen Ootori. All he wanted was justice for his home planet and to live peacefully on Earth thereafter...
- Tohru, who loses his father in gruesome fashion and then his Nakama, too.
- Leo ends up as an Iron Woobie by the time he gives Mebius a hand.
