Hello! I noticed that you added "Category:United States" to the creator page that you just wrote. That category is for a disambiguation page - which category did you intend to add instead?

Blakegripling ph (talkcontribs)

Oh sorry about that. I am honestly not sure as I made the page in a whim.

Robkelk (talkcontribs)

I've removed the category. when you decide what you want there instead, you can add the replacement then.

Thank you for your continued contributions to the wiki!

However, as we have informed you in the past, we require that the URL where you acquired the image be included in the file description. Because of events where we have lost images (or in the case of the recent troubles came very close to doing so), we want and need this information in order to recover from any similar future catastrophe. Plus it's also legally required under the terms of the Fair Use/Fair Dealing licenses under which we are able to employ these images.

Please add the source URL to the file description as soon as you can. And if you have uploaded any other images which we have not yet noticed are lacking source URLs, please update those as well.

Thank you.

Also, the link that you provided mentioned consensual sex with a teenager. Teenagers are not prepubescent, thus this is not a case of pedophilia.

I must now place you On Notice for inserting false information into the wiki.

Blakegripling ph (talkcontribs)

My apologies; the news site I cited did appear to be legitimate, but did not go into detail as to whether it was indeed the same guy accused of sexual assault or not.

As for the consensual sex bit, IIRC the age of consent is 18 in the US. Teenagers are by legal definition still considered children until they turn 18, thus the person who was accused of sex crimes could not legally consent to engage in such activity.

Robkelk (talkcontribs)
Blakegripling ph (talkcontribs)

That's why I said IIRC as I am not a U.S. resident. I do however apologise as I could have done my research better.

GethN7 (talkcontribs)

Fair enough. Age of consent laws are important to get right when citing allegations of sexual misconduct, we appreciate your willingness to do better at being more prudent with your research.

Template:Nazi disclaimer

Robkelk (talkcontribs)

This template doesn't look anything like any of All The Tropes' other templates -- in fact, it looks like a Wikipedia template, right down to using their categories (which we don't have).

If this is your original work, when are you planning on making it look like an All The Tropes template?

If this is from somewhere else, where did it come from? (If it came from a source that allows re-use under a license, then we are required by law to list which license it is being used under. Most free-reuse licenses, including most versions of Creative Commons, also require identification of the source.)

Blakegripling ph (talkcontribs)

Now that you mentioned it, I guess basing it off the content disclaimer template used on Birth of a Nation would suffice. I simply kanged it off Wikipedia for the time being as a placeholder until a better layout is made.

Blakegripling ph (talkcontribs)

And yeah I've already changed it so it won't look like it was simply copy-pasted.

Content warnings

2
Robkelk (talkcontribs)

Hello!

I see that you just put a disclaimer on The Birth of a Nation/Source. Sine I put a disclaimer on All This and Rabbit Stew/Source yesterday, this has inspired me to create a template for all disclaimers: {{content warning}}. We obviously need one.

The template takes one argument - the text saying what is objectionable about the material.

I used some of your wording and some of mine - if there's anything that you think needs to be present that isn't there now, please let me know.

cc: @Labster @Looney Toons @GethN7 @QuestionableSanity @Derivative @SelfCloak

EDIT: Here's a list of the pages that use the content warning template. If you are aware of any other pages that should have a warning, please add it.

Blakegripling ph (talkcontribs)

Good call on the template considering how some media may contain sensitive themes.

Thanks for the upload, but can you please include links to where the image came from, per All The Tropes:Uploading and Adding an Image to a Page? As we note there, we've had at least one catastrophic event since 2013 where we lost lots of images, and having that info in the file description will make it easier to reconstruct in the event of another such disaster.

Thanks!

The page on the Other Tropes Wiki is by and large my handiwork

As far as I can tell with a quick comparison, the page here is identical to the TVT page. If the original page is only "by and large" yours, then any portion of it which you have not written which has been copied here has been done so illegally -- as you were informed below when you first posted a page for Ott Tanak. Once again, you need to have been the sole author of the material or gotten explicit permission for reposting here from everyone else who contributed to the page, or rewrite the page to remove any illegal material. Please confirm, as you did below, that you are actually the only author, or get permission from the other contributors. Otherwise we will have to delete the page to protect the wiki.

Also, when copying over your own work (and only your own work) in the future, please pay attention to the tropes we have renamed. Red Baron is not a page about sobriquets (that's Sobriquet); it is a page about Baron Manfred von Richtofen.

In the future, don't say "by and large"; don't imply someone else may have contributed. Explicitly claim your complete authorship.

Blakegripling ph (talkcontribs)

OK, understood.

Creating new subpages

1
Looney Toons (talkcontribs)

Please use the "Create New" button on a wiki page to create new subpages, such as Mafia: The City of Lost Heaven/WMG. Doing so will prepopulate the page with all the necessary markup for making a page look and behave like an All The Tropes page. If for some reason you do not want to use the the button or the Page Creator tool, it is incumbent upon you to properly mark up the page by hand.

I have recreated Mafia: The City of Lost Heaven/WMG with the required markup, so you don't have to. But the wiki staff would very much appreciate it if in the future you didn't add to our work load.

Thank you.

I know this is lifted wholesale from the other tropes wiki, but it is by and large my handiwork.

Well, we have a small problem there. If it had been entirely your work, that would have been okay, but in order to cut and paste directly like that, you need to have been the sole author of the material or gotten explicit permission for reposting here from everyone else who contributed to the page. We can't accept "mostly mine", because that means it's still "partly someone else's", unless that someone else approves. Can you please edit it to remove or rewrite other people's contributions? If you can't, we'll have to delete the page to protect the wiki.

I've checked the revision history and from what I can tell, no one else edited the page apart from yours truly.

Looney Toons (talkcontribs)

In that case, it's all right. Thanks.

I just noticed...

2
Looney Toons (talkcontribs)

...that you created another trope in the main namespace instead of the Trope Workshop. It's been moved there by another admin who didn't let you know, but I'm afraid I'm going to have issue a formal warning:

You were told once, below, two months ago, that new tropes are created in the Workshop. You have ignored that instruction. The first time is considered an honest mistake. Repeating it after being told the correct procedure? That's potentially grounds for a temporary edit block, per our ban guidelines. If you create another trope candidate in the main namespace and not the Trope Workshop, you will receive a two-week tempban.

Please reply in this thread to acknowledge you have read this warning and understand. Failure to reply promptly will result in a short, non-punitive "attention-getter" block.

Sorry about that, I didn't think it through tbh.
