I just undid your undoing of the recent anonymous edit to Magical Girl Lyrical Nanoha StrikerS/YMMV

4
Robkelk (talkcontribs)

First, that was a perfectly good example of Complete Monster. If the anonymous editor hadn't added it, I would have.

Second, it was on a YMMV page. Expect to see things that you disagree with on a YMMV page. "YMMV" stands for "Your Mileage May Vary" - there will be things that we don't agree with on YMMV pages, but they stay on the pages.

And I'm calling you out on this in public as per the Policy for Wiki Staff. We're both admins - we're supposed to know better than to do this sort of thing.

DocColress (talkcontribs)

Apologies for deleting that Quatro entry - I actually didn't read it before I made the edit to delete it, since I'd assumed it was a restoration of an old poorly written entry for the character. I now looked at it and it's a valid writeup for a YMMV entry of the trope.

However, Your Mileage May Vary is not something to be abused. If someone added something that was either completely untrue and at odds with what was actually there in the canon text of a work, or instances of Square Peg, Round Trope, then it doesn't belong on any page, even a YMMV, no matter how much the person may argue "you don't have to agree with it, but it's what I think and Your Mileage Mary Vary!" I'm not saying that the Quatro entry was a case of that, but I am pointing out that not everything that goes on YMMV has to stay there. If a written entry out of touch wth it's subject matter and the trope it's claiming to be, it should be and will be removed.

Robkelk (talkcontribs)

"I actually didn't read it before I made the edit to delete it"

Oh, dear.

Again, we're both admins - we're supposed to know better than to do that sort of thing.

DocColress (talkcontribs)

Apologies again. I will try to avoid that in the future.

New Candidates Part 2

Miked0920 (talkcontribs)

Good call on Chef I have now reread a summary on her and she seems like she is not taken too seriously or darken the films tone. She definitly fails the heinous test when compared to other villains from Troll based films, like The Boxtrolls Archibald Snatcher who basically wants to commit genocide to join the elite society and happily tries to murder any children in his way. She also seems to fail in comparison to other Dreamworks villains who do qualify, and is not at a Mandible Gallaxhar or Drago Bludvist level of evil.

As for Moana in the Disney canon, there are no CM's to be found, Tamatoa is often played for laughs and Te'ka gets her heart back, has a tragic backstory and is more of a woobie destroyer of worlds, who winds up redeeming herself in the end.

DocColress (talkcontribs)

I saw Moana already so I know. So you don't have any actual new candidates to propose?

Miked0920 (talkcontribs)

Not now if I come across any I will let you know.

Call of Duty CM Subpage

67.87.104.25 (talkcontribs)
TV Tropes has upvoted at least 7 examples of CM's from the Call of Duty Franchise. I am hereby requesting that a page should be made for the villains from the franchise who do qualify. Vladimir Makarov, Khaled Al Asad, Imran Zakhaev (All from the Modern Warfare Trilogy), Nikita Dragovich and Deimos (from the Black Ops Trilogy) and finally the most recently upvoted, Admiral Salen Kotch, The Big Bad of Infinate Warfare. Plz do not permablock IPs

GethN7 (talkcontribs)

Since IPs can be used by more than one party, or even spoofed or proxied, this can cause issues for legit users.

Make IP blocks no longer than six months to a year.

DocColress (talkcontribs)

Sorry. The user I've been dealing with has been constantly making trouble with adding unnecessary things to Complete Monster talk pages without even just using the edit feature, and I don't know how else to get rid of him/her.

GethN7 (talkcontribs)

I know that feel, if you'll pardon the meme reference, but just 6 to 12 month block IPs and repeat.

If it gets too bad, I'll ask the Miraheze staff to implement sterner measures.

DocColress (talkcontribs)

He just won't quit. You really ought to do that.

GethN7 (talkcontribs)

Ask Miraheze staff to implement a temporary suspension of allowing IP accounts to make edits here, but only after conferring with them for any other solution beforehand. Reference this conversation, and continue to delete anything the spammer leaves while temp blocking their IPs to deny them any satisfaction.

Assuming they do suspend IP editing, let me know and add a sitenotice to this effect.

DocColress (talkcontribs)

Can't you do that? You're better at that kind of stuff than I am.

GethN7 (talkcontribs)

Consider this me putting trust in you. You have admin powers for a reason, and I trust your judgment on this.

DocColress (talkcontribs)

Well, link me to where I have to go to notify the Miraheze staff, please?

Robkelk (talkcontribs)

Complete Monster/Web Comics has "Category:{{BASEPAGENAME}}" - you don't need to specify "Category:Complete Monster" a second time.

DocColress (talkcontribs)

Sorry for the rollback - I was just trying to get rid of an image problem that had come up due to your edits.

New Candidate part 2

3
Miked0920 (talkcontribs)

I have seen more of the 19th Pokemon film Volcanion and the Mechanical Marvel and I now have more information about the big bad Jarvis.

Who is he = Jarvis is as I have stated above the films big bad. He is a corrupt minister who wants to control the protagonist Pokemon Magearna's soul heart to amass an army of mega evolved Pokemon in order to sieze control of the Azoth Kingdom for himself. This guy could likely be the most heinous villain to come from the Pokemon Anime since Grings Kodai.

What has he done = Jarvis, before the film has even begun has kidnapped the protagonist pokemon Magearna from it's home the Nebal Plateau. Jarvis first appears in the film when his henchmen Dogha and Ether deliver Magearna to him after fighting off an attack from the knight in shining armor Pokemon Volcanion, as Ash and Volcanion attempt to (successfully) rescue Magearna he unleashes a mega evoloution wave on many Pokemon who are capable of mega evoloution. This wave causes these said pokemon intense pain and causes them to fly out of control, all while enslaving them against their will. He also has brainwashed the young prince of the Azoth Kingdom Racel into loyalty against his sister Chymia in hopes that he could be useful someday.

He then enlists the help of the Team Rocket Trio after they are caught snooping around the castle, arming them with mega evolved Pokemon and mega stones, Team Rocket eventually fail their mission thanks to a staged attack from Chymia (The Princess of Azoth Kingdom) and Volcanion. Jarvis after team rocket has failed leads a major assault on the Nebal Plateau (Magearna and Volcanion's home) where his cronies capture several of the Pokemon living there in mechanical bands that electrically torture them. Jarvis henchmen then brutally electrocute those caught Pokemon to an almost fatal extent, to force Magearna to surrender. Upon realizing Ash and Volcanion are trapped as well, Magearna gives in and boards their airship. The young price Racel is excited about Jarvis success but Jarvis reveals that he intends to destroy the Plateau and then forces the horrified young prince to watch, as he forcibly wrenches Magearna's Soul Heart from her body seemingly "killing" her in the process. After tossing the seemingly dead Magearna's body aside he lies to the horrified prince that his sister and everyone on the Plateau are dead before putting him to sleep with Gengar's hypnosis. Jarvis then attempts to murder everyone in sight on the Nebal Plateau in cold blood by having the mega evolved Pokemon fire hyper beam at them all.

After Ash, his friends and Volcanion all survive and pursue Jarvis in his ship he attempts to kill them again by firing a laser powered by Magearna's soul heart, Magearna however tries to resist his commands and the laser does not fire. In the meantime Meowth, horrified sobs over Magearna's dead body. Team Rocket attempt to stop Jarvis but he simply blasts off Jessie and James while keeping Meowth as a hostage hoping to translate Magearna's voice. After Ash, Chymia, Pikachu and Volcanion reach Jarvis control room in his flying fortress, he captures, binds, and tortures them with the same electrical bands he used earlier at the plateau. Jarvis then tries to break Magearna's spirit using his Gengar's mean look to force the pokemon to use the laser and destroy it's own home the Nebal Plateau, this act causes Magearna's soul to fade from the soul heart. Jarvis then tries a final shot but is stopped by Zygarde and the Pokemon of the Plateau. Volcanion in a rage frees itself Ash and Chymia from the machines. Ash then breaks Jarvis staff freeing all of the mega evolved pokemon from Jarvis control, after which they escape the fortress.

With his plan foiled Jarvis tries to completly destroy Nebal Plateau and wipe out scores of Pokemon and humans one more time by setting his flying fortress on collision course while he escapes via a jetpack. Ash's Greninja disables the jetpack sending Jarvis flying into the woods below, he is later arrested by Chymia.

Any Mitigating Factors, Freudian Excuse, Redeeming Qualities None he is Faux Affably evil, motivated solely by greed and a desire to dominate. Has no regard for life or anyone but himself and is incapable of feeling any remorse about his deeds.

Heinous level Oh very much so Only Hunter J, Iron Masked Marauder, Grings Kodai, Dr. Yung, and Cyrus (Anime) rival him. Like the aforementioned baddies he showcases no redeeming qualities and no regard for life. Like the Marauder he tries to force the protagonist Pokemon to destroy its own home simply For The Evulz. His way of taking over the minds of Pokemon that can mega evolve is pure enslavement. He brainwashed the young prince of Azoth Kingdom into loyalty and even enlisted Team Rocket only to throw both of them away once they have outlived their usefulness. Attempts to Kill several children and Pokemon on Nebal Plateau just to spite Magearna and Volcanion as well as destroy an entire populated ecosystem/area of pokemon. Definitly the most heinous villain to appear in the XY series and the most heinous and depraved anime villain since Kodai.

Conclusion Id say he qualifies (he should soon get discussed on TV Tropes), any thoughts?

DocColress (talkcontribs)

I'm waiting a bit longer before I do a writeup, but I definitely feel he's a keeper for sure.

Miked0920 (talkcontribs)

TV Tropes will in all likelyhood discuss him before the year is over after the movie is released in the United States, the write up will hopefully be done then. I was just getting this guy off my chest

Harry Potter and the Cursed Child... Hoo Boy.

NoxiousSludge (talkcontribs)

Hey, I have no idea if you're up to speed with anything Harry Potter related, but I did some lurking on TV Tropes and heard that the upcoming canonical play Harry Potter and the Cursed Child is going to really, REALLY be the cause of some heated discussion due to a new potential candidate as well as a few characters having to be heavily reexamined.

I just want to get something out of the way right not: If any of the current keepers (Voldemort, Bellatrix, Umbridge, or Greyback) are given any redeeming/mitigating qualities, are they gonna be given the axe? Or will we go the post-timeskip Mayuri and Orochimaru route with them and keep them while elaborating that they counted before said work was created?

DocColress (talkcontribs)

I got spoiled on the play's plot - Umbridge is, again, in no danger of getting cut. She shows up in a time travel AU, as vile and tyrannical as ever, and even attempts to murder a child before getting killed by Snape. The ones sure to cause some discussion are Voldemort and Bellatrix - BIG SPOILERS AHEAD,

Apparently Voldemort and Bellatrix had sex at some point and conceived a child, Delphie, who's the Big Bad of the play's story. Honestly, this does nothing to disprove their status since they very well could have taken a love potion for that (which is how Voldemort himself was conceived), it could have been sex out of passion with no true love involved, or since some have noticed that Voldemort having a child creates inconsistencies in continuity and timeline, the whole thing could be a lie since the only one pushing it is Delphie herself. It's possible that Bellatrix was her mother/guardian and lied to her about her father due to some sick fantasy of Bellatrix's,

And as for Delphie, I feel she can't possibly count due to a comparatively small rap sheet (she tries to do something similar to what Starlight Glimmer tried to do in the MLP: FiM Season 5 finale, has a body count of one student, and tries to kill the good guys), being a potential Woobie Destroyer Of Worlds, and being almost Played For Laughs at points (her entire character seems to lampoon My Immortal style fanfic OCs and at one point in her time turning antics she schemes to make Cedric Diggory suffer a humiliating loss by making him naked and riding on a broom of purple feathers). Plus, she's incapacitated at Azkaban in the end rather than killed, so the possibility for some form of redemption isn't totally closed off.

NoxiousSludge (talkcontribs)

Yeah, I did some research of my own and agree wholeheartedly on your points. I think more than anything I'm relieved that Umbridge hasn't had her characterization as THE most hatable, vile, and just plain evil character in the series hurt by shoddy writing!

But yeah, I highly doubt that Voldemort or Bellatrix have been disqualified: Voldemort obviously doesn't get love (That's the whole point of his character, in fact), and as for Bellatrix unless we're shown explicitly that there was a genuine romance on her end, I'm comfortable with writing it off as passionate lust-induced sex.

I'm just going to say that if Delphie IS intended as a joke at the expense of people with hilariously unrealistic Mary Sues, I won't mind her as much: when I read about her I couldn't help but feel shocked by how stupid of a concept her character was. Though with that being said, the play's story sounds... bad. REALLY bad. I'm not a fan of the time-travely stuff and all the inconsistencies about TIme Turners its raised , and let's keep it at that! :p

DocColress (talkcontribs)

Umbridge remains a strong example of a CM who shows that resources and playing fields that either limit the villain or "allow" them better chances for evildoing really matters. Umbridge is as horrible as she can possibly be no matter where she is on the totem pole of power in any given scenario.

Rowling has stated even before this play that Voldemort and Bellatrix shared true love as much as people like them are capable of, meaning to say that's they share something that's not true love but a perversion of it based upon them sharing horrible, horrible ideologies and dark passions.

Yeah, a lot of people feel the story wasn't thought through very well and that several points are ridiculous, but I just cannot see how Dephie could not be at least partially meant to be seen as a ridiculous character. The things the play has her doing and saying borders on black comedy or unintentional comedy!

DocColress (talkcontribs)

I'd said being a potential Woobie Destroyer Of Worlds as a mitigating factor for Delphie before, but after reading more detailed summaries of events in the play, that "potential" should now be "definite." She actually never intended on killing baby Harry and was instead wanting to stop Voldemort from trying to kill baby Harry (and killing his parents in the process) because that kickstarted the series of events leading to Voldemort's destruction, and all she really wanted deep down was to have her parents in her life. She actually begs to be killed or have her memory wiped completely rather than continue living with the pain of being an orphan raised on Death Eater beliefs and with knowledge of her parents, but Harry denies that to her because he can empathize how it feels like to be an orphan who knows of their dead parents' legacies but will never get to know them, and Delphie has to live with that just as he does every day. She's also witness to Voldemort killing Harry's parents inside the house, and apparently she herself is pretty mortified and solemn about that and Harry breaking down in tears afterwards. She gets sent to Azkaban, but there's definitely room for reforming her in the future.

Doc, please don't reduce the ban time for Stolen5487...

Looney Toons (talkcontribs)

...like you did when I tempbanned Sky Knight Subaki. He appears in fact to be Subaki, playing at ban evasion -- the permban has been decided in discussion by three admins. And in case you didn't see it, he attempted to stalinize the ban notice I put on SKS's talk page by turning it into something innocuous with his own signature on it. Even if he isn't a ban evader, vandalizing an admin ban notice is worth a ban in and of itself.

Thanks.

G-Monster (talkcontribs)

OK, wow. You just tried the exact same shit on the other ATT wiki and on this one even tried to remove freaking Joker from the DC Animation page, even when you should know full well why he's not disqualified from the trope!

I didn't even knoo that their was a other wiki beforr, and in my opinion the Joker is a cm. and I was watching anime all day. Ive got another accont on wikia to but I want you to let my Grand Master Mario accont back onto ATT wiki. I don't accept my ban and I'll just keep sending you messages until I can edit ATT again as G-Monster and Grand Master Mario.

GethN7 (talkcontribs)

You are banned on both wikis. Get over it, we aren't letting you back.

About the Video Game Monster page

NoxiousSludge (talkcontribs)

Hey, I want to tell you a little something that I noticed about the page. On one hand, I appreciate that you alphabetized all the examples: it was something I wanted to do for a while now, but could never think of a good time to do so. So from the bottom of my heart, thanks a lot!

But on the other hand, I noticed a problem with certain entries. There were several that I updated a while back such as Resident Evil's Bryan Irons, Okami's Ninetails, and Castlevania's Actrise, all of whom I expanded the entries for, but for whatever reason they have their pre-edit write-ups listed for their entries. I know there was that time where Orain died and we had to use all edits made before a certain period, but I'm certain I made those additions either recently or before the cut-off date for when data on the old Orain site could stop being restored. Did anything do awry during the editing process?

EDIT: Thanks! Though now I'm kind of embarrassed seeing how easily the entries were restored. :I

DocColress (talkcontribs)

I wasn't the one who alphabetized the examples, that was Sky Knight Subaki. The mistake probably occurred during the process.

Sky Knight Subaki (talkcontribs)

Sorry about that, I didn't realize they'd been updated.

NoxiousSludge (talkcontribs)

Yeah, I've realized that now and feel dumb for thinking it was you without checking.

Grand Master Mario

Stolen5487 (talkcontribs)

Did you know he's been removing several characters from Complete Monster without discussion?

DocColress (talkcontribs)

Here on this Wiki? Or the Wikia version?

GethN7 (talkcontribs)

He is now banned from all branches of ATT, per my order.

DocColress (talkcontribs)

Thank goodness. If he was going to continue breaking rules and not learning better grammar, typing, and English, he wasn't a helpful contributor.
