Hey, it's me again.

Thanks for the new work page, but it was missing all the necessary markup and categorization required to properly integrate the page into the wiki. We have a set of templates that set up the line of buttons across the top of the page, and categories are the MediaWiki equivalent to TVT's indexes. Don't worry about fixing Whiplash (TV series), I've added what was missing. (I've also created a category page for it.) But you might want to take a look and see what I added.

When creating pages in the future, please use the Page Creator tool, which you reach either from the link I just embedded, or as the first item under "Troping Utilities" in the menu that runs along the left edge of every page. There are four prompts on it -- for works, put the name of your page in the last field, and click the button next to it. You'll be put into an editor with a skeleton framework for a works page, complete with helpful instructions inside comments, and all you need to do is add your content.

It would also help a great deal if you take a look at the Works Page Guidelines, as I suggested way back in my first message to you. That and our Style Guide will help you create well-formed works pages.

Hepzibah (talkcontribs)

Sorry. Too enthusiastic, I guess. I'll try and slow down and be more careful.

Looney Toons (talkcontribs)

Just until you get used to our tools and our style. You'll catch on fast enough, no worries.

Please don't waste your time alphabetizing examples within sections

5
Looney Toons (talkcontribs)

... as you did on Knife-Throwing Act and Whip It Good.

Since the official wiki style is to add all new examples to the ends of their sections to make them easy to find, the section contents are going to get out of order anyway.

Looney Toons (talkcontribs)

...plus looking at Recent Changes, I see Whip It Good lost over 500 bytes from your changes to it -- that's a small paragraph's worth, and somewhat worrying. I can't figure out what's missing, but I can't imagine it's all whitespace. Knife-Throwing lost 37 bytes, which might all be attributed to non-content, but I'm still concerned.

Hepzibah (talkcontribs)

It was a combination of white space and references to 'the above example', 'furthermore', etc. that didn't make sense in alphabetical order.

My apologies. I'm trying to adjust the style differences between here and TV Tropes and obviously doing a poor job. Sorry :(

Looney Toons (talkcontribs)

Not poor, no. You just need to get a handle on how we do things.

We've had people who've actively refused to learn how we did things, and even ban-evaded when we tried our usual "attention-getting" tactics on them. I'd say you're well ahead of the pack. And like I said, in this particular instance, I just wanted to to save you some effort that really doesn't profit anyone. (Except those of us with certain kinds of OCD. <grin>)

Hepzibah (talkcontribs)

Thanks. I do have that kind of OCD. :) (And genuinely prefer things in alphabetic order, but I'll stick to the riles of my new 'home'.)

Copyright Violation

Looney Toons (talkcontribs)

@Hepzibah:

Thank you for your contributions, but unfortunately I've had to undo almost all of your recent edits and replace most of the trope descriptions on Miss Fisher's Murder Mysteries with the context template because they have all been copied word-for-word from TV Tropes. This is copyright violation and is illegal.

Understand, please, that TV Tropes and All The Tropes have different Creative Commons licenses, and as a result we cannot legally use TVT content from after July 2012. You are free to recreate the deleted material completely in your own words. Before you do, though, we would recommend that you review the following pages that you may find helpful:

Finally we strongly recommend that you read How We Do Bans Around Here. This isn't a threat -- this is the wiki policy strictly controlling how and when user bans can be applied by an Admin. We want you to be aware that unlike TVT, we do not ban users on whims or because we're cranky -- and that you know what we do ban people for, and what it takes, so you can avoid future problems.

I've imposed a short, temporary block to your ability to edit to prevent you from adding more examples copied from TV Tropes to various pages until we are confident you have read this message. However, by the guidelines on the Bans page, it is, however, sadly necessary to inform you that you are now the recipient of a formal warning: if after the temporary block expires you continue to post content taken unmodified from TV Tropes, you will receive a much longer punitive temp ban.

Please reply to this message so we know we've reached you. Thanks.

Hepzibah (talkcontribs)

I am a refugee from TV Tropes and created the Miss Fisher's Murder Mysteries page there (under the user name foxley). I thought that under your rules, I could do this as they were my own edits. I also only copied over those tropes I had placed in the trope list.

If I have misunderstood the All the Tropes rules, I apologise.

Looney Toons (talkcontribs)

I think the initial problem here is that we didn't give you any indication that you should make an explicit copyright claim in the edit reason to prevent this kind of misunderstanding. I've brought the question up in the off-wiki forum of just how we should let editors know to do this.

Derivative (talkcontribs)

Can you prove you are foxley?

Hepzibah (talkcontribs)

What constitutes proof?

Derivative (talkcontribs)

Presuming LT/others don't have a better idea (they probably do), some kind of evidence on that account that the two are connected. Maybe just adding the word foxley, presuming others can't edit profiles on TVT (I don't use TVT so don't know).

Looney Toons (talkcontribs)

That's a good question, actually. In the past when we've asked for proof in cases like this, the contributor involved silently vanished in the night and we never heard from them again. In eight years we've never actually had to take the next step in the process. However, in my eyes the very fact that a) you've given a specific TVT account name and b) you're asking how to verify your identity are pretty good evidence you are who you're claiming to be.

When you say "refugee", does that mean you no longer have an active account there? If that's the case, Derivative's idea obviously won't work. If you do still have a TVT account, though, adding some manner of "codeword" to your user profile there might be the way to go.

Regardless, please be patient. We're doing what we can on our end to verify things, and once your identity is confirmed, I'll revert my changes to the pages you edited, and rescue/approve the changes that were still in the moderation queue. You will also have my apologies.

Hepzibah (talkcontribs)

Unfortunately, I deleted my TV Tropes account just before I was perma-banned because I could see which way the wind was blowing.

I'm happy to be patient while you sort this. I only copied the Miss Fisher stuff across because I was looking for a way I could complete 10 edits quickly. If I had realised it was going to be a hassle, I would have done things differently.

Hopefully, my identity can be established, because I would like to bring some of the pages I created on TV Tropes across without having to completely re-write them.

Looney Toons (talkcontribs)

Sorry for the delay -- the staff agrees that what is available to us -- both here and through our TVT contacts -- is sufficient to establish your bonafides. As soon I save this, I'll starting undoing my undos and moderation rejections.

Looney Toons (talkcontribs)

And done.

EDIT: And I've granted you autopatrolled and automoderated rights, to make bringing your content over a bit easier. Just remember to note in the edit reason that you're the rights holder and are legally allowed to copy it so we don't have any future confusion.

Hepzibah (talkcontribs)

No worries. Will do. Thanks for your consideration.

Looney Toons (talkcontribs)

You're welcome!

Thanks for the new work page

Derivative (talkcontribs)

Hello, and welcome to All The Tropes.

Thanks for the Miss Fishers Murder Mysteries page that you just added to ATT. I approved the page but had to make changes due to some flaws.

If in future, can you please use ATT Page Creator as we have boilerplates that you can use in order to make any new articles fit easily into our structure. It adds categories and templates designed to help users create work pages easier.

Thank you!

Looney Toons (talkcontribs)

I see that the page has been moved to include proper punctuation in the title. I have deleted the redirect and replaced it with a direct link on the one page that points to this work, which is why there is a redlink above.
