Messages From Earth

Then we heard it...A sound that just reaches right into your brain and rips it apart...The sound of something terrible being born.
Dr. Mary Kirkish

This episode contains example of:

  • All There in the Manual: Garibaldi's tale of his time on Mars is something readers of the Babylon 5 comic already knew.
  • The Berserker: Because the pilot was not prepared properly, the Shadow ship awoke as one.
  • Continuity Nod:
    • Sheridan won't fire on the Earthforce ship pursuing them because it's the Agamemnon, his immediately previous command.
    • Garibaldi mentions being able to get anchovies shipped to the station.
  • Dodge by Braking: The White Star uses this inside Jupiter while the Shadow ship races past and is crushed in the enormous pressure of the planet's depths.
  • Flash Back: While Dr. Kirkish tell the war council what happened on Mars.
  • Friendship Moment: Delenn making it rain. It's a simple, absolutely unnecessary thing she does for no other reason than that it will make Sheridan happy. She has no ulterior motives and absolutely no reason to do it beyond pure, absolute kindness.
  • Hyperspeed Escape: The White Star escapes the Agamemnon by jumping to hyperspace while still in Jupiter's atmosphere. The jump point ignites the surrounding hydrogen, causing a large explosion, which makes the Agamemnon think they've been destroyed.
  • Nice Job Breaking It, Hero: Sheridan's actions prompt President Clarke to declare martial law. (Although to be fair to Sheridan, it's not like Clarke wasn't going to do it sooner or later anyway.)
  • Oh Crap: "In Valen's name, it's awake."
    • Also: "President Clark has signed a decree today, declaring martial law..."
  • Try and Follow: After firing some shots to get the Shadow ship's attention, Sheridan orders them to race into Jupiter's atmosphere.
