Alternate Character Interpretation: This web reviewer repeatedly refers to Emily as "date rapey". Considering she at one point uses magic to pull Victor away from Victoria and back to the world of the dead against his will, the reviewer might have a point.
- Considering her backstory, she might be excused of some of her behavior.
Complete Monster: Lord Barkis Bittern, who murders Emily so that he can get her fortune and it is implied that he plans to do the same to Victoria.
- It gets even worse when you consider what possible reason Barkis could have for coming back for Victoria after finding out her family was broke.
Ear Worm: "The Remains of the Day", Dear God!
Ensemble Darkhorse: Bonejangles, the walking, talking, singing, swinging skeleton voiced by Danny Elfman himself.
Everyone Is Jesus in Purgatory: One possible interperation is that the dead are lost souls in purgatory, explaining Emily being redeemed in the end.
Fan-Preferred Couple: Victor/Emily as opposed to Victor/Victoria
- It's not uncommon to find fans who ship Emily with Bonejangles.

Genius Bonus: The bar in the underworld is called "The Ball & Socket". It's a great place, in fact one could call it a "hip joint"!
Hollywood Homely: Victoria has 'the face of an otter' and is a disgrace to her family.
- Ironically, Victoria's one of the most HUMAN-looking of the puppets in this production.
- Likely, her parents say this just because they are assholes who need someone to look down on.
Memetic Sex God: Emily, so very much. Having Helena Bonham Carter as her voice actress only strengthened this further.
Moral Dissonance: See "Alternate Character Interpretation" above
Moral Event Horizon: Barkis left Emily waiting for him, and kills her to get her jewels.
Nightmare Fuel: The scene where Victor puts the ring on what he thought of as a twig... and the subsequent coming-to-life of Emily.
The Woobie: Emily could qualify, in a... weird way. She was killed by the man she fell in love with, then she's rejected by her new (unwilling) husband, and THEN she ends up letting him go although he was ready to join her in the afterlife. Damn, she really needs a hug.
- To be honest, all three of the leads have their Woobie moments. Almost all of which are caused by Barkis, one way or another. Victor in particular is definitely a Woobie -- the animators on the film started in an interview that they endeavored to make Victor as pathetic as possible.
