Describe Dangerous Detour: The Old World here.
"True that. That affair with Essoc still makes me pretty thoughtful, but if we just bypass the city, nothing should happen", I answer. |
Well... okay. Dangerous Detour: The Old World is an original story, written by troper Jaryl. It's set in a fantasy-world populated by Petting Zoo People and is depicted through the eyes of Main Character Jaryl Garen, an anthropomorphic wolf.
The Story is still Work In Progress
According to Word of God, this could be considered as a Sequel to Dangerous Detour, though with him stating that he's not really happy how the currently written Dangerous Detour-chapters turned out to be, this should probably rather be called a Continuity Reboot.
In this preview, Jaryl and his adopted dragon-son Jin are traveling throughout the lands, a city named Essoc as their goal, as they are in possession of a weird, small plate in form of a dragon-head, which they try to sell to a curiousity-collector in said city. Not all seems to look nice and well, since it seems that the Dragons of this land are apparently out to start a war...
- Continuity Reboot: Very much implied to be one by the author, thanks to certain details being changed (such as Jins age and adoption) or missing entirely (Jaryls scars).
- Did You Just Have Sex?: Right at the start of the Mood Whiplash-part, lampshaded by Jaryl:
Yeah, she came over to my room tonight, so what? |
- Fantastic Racism: The dragons apparently hate all races which have fur (according to a comment from one dragon), so they are currently trying to Kill'Em All brutally.
- Gosh Dang It to Heck: Averted.
- Great Offscreen War: Jaryl references one which took place several years ago. It's currently unknown if he participated in it in any way.
- Instant Awesome, Just Add Dragons: Jin the Dragon.
- Interspecies Adoption: Jaryl, an anthropomorphic wolf, adopted Jin, a (very humanlike) dragon.
- Interspecies Romance: Shelly, a panther, and Jaryl, a wolf, have one going on.
- Lighter and Softer -> Darker and Edgier: Starts off as pretty light, but takes a pretty harsh turn to the dark when Redfield is brutally attacked by Dragons and where the characters actually start to swear.
- Mood Whiplash: The attack on Redfield.
- Noodle Incident: Mentioned by Shelly, to which Jaryl dryly responded that this is only their business, which they swore should never talk about again.
- Petting Zoo People: Played straight, of course.
