Dangerous Detour: The Old World/Characters
Jaryl Garen
"I thought so..." |
Main Character, anthropomorphic wolf and Narrator. He's got a dragon-head plate in his possession, which he wants to sell to a curiousity-collector.
- Ambiguously Bi: Hinted at by Word of God, though Jaryl doesn't show any signs of that in the story yet.
- Badass Normal: Had no qualms about talking a dragon down and managed to fight very well against said dragon, even though he got his kill stolen right at the end, the only wounds he takes from this encounter being a merely hurting lower jaw due to an uppercut and one single scar across the bridge of his snout. Keep in mind that this dude is "just" a 20 year old anthropomorphic wolf whose only notable piece of combat-equipment consists of a normal Iron Sword.
- Bare Your Midriff: Showing off pretty welltoned muscles.
- Berserk Button: Threaten Jin in any way, and you've got a very angry wolf ready to tear you a new one!
- Beware the Nice Ones: Was much more willing to fight when one of the dragons attacking Redfield threatened to kill Jin just for being with Jaryl, a wolf and thus belonging to the furrier races, so he quickly retorts with:
"Now just keep your mouth shut, fucking wanker! It's not Jins fault for being left in the lurch by his parents, that's why I adopted him! And if someone has to die, then it's going to be you!" |
- Bruiser with a Soft Center: He cares a lot for Jin.
- Carpet of Virility: Depending on the Artist
- Character Development: Whatever happened in Dangerous Detour, whether it's still Canon or not, he's definitely calmer here.
- Depending on the Artist: Still a victim to this, but his look seems to slowly standardize.
- First Person Narration: Obviously, as everything is told from his Point of View in a Present Tense Narrative-style.
- Fur Is Skin: Played straight.
- Good Colors, Evil Colors: Wears his clothing in bloodred and black, colors not really associated with heroic characters.
- Handwraps of Awesome
- Heroes Prefer Swords
- Hired Guns: He was one prior to the start of the story.
- Hot Dad
- In-Series Nickname: "Redeye", courtesy of Nathan.
- Mr. Fanservice: As if all the available artwork of him isn't a good indicator for that...
- Parental Substitute: Is this to Jin.
- Blue Oni: Though veers into Red when his Berserk Button is hit or if someone annoys him.
- Red Eyes, Take Warning
- Scars Are Forever: References this after getting one across his snout during a fight against one dragon.
- Shonen Hair: Largely Depending on the Artist in how messy it is.
- Sleeves Are for Wimps
- The Alcoholic: Yep. Is stated that he was once able to drink a lot of alcohol, but thanks to headaches, wanting to be a paragon for Jin and thanks to a certain Noodle Incident, he decided to cut back on drinking.
- The Hero: Everything's from his Point of View, and he seems to be a pretty nice dude too.
- Too Many Belts: Very mild example, as he just has two of them.
- With This Herring: Is implied to have been traveling for a really long time, and now he and three other people are now up against a whole clan of Dragons... and the only thing he has to defend himself with is a bog-standard Iron Sword.
Jin
"What's it gonna be, either two really loving each other, or a monster. Or even two monsters loving each other?" |
A sixteen year old dragon. He had been abandoned by his parents several years before the start of the story, and now accompanies Jaryl, too in search of a place to live.
- Black Eyes: Well, a brighter black anyways...
- Bread, Eggs, Breaded Eggs: Invoked, just look at that quote directly under his name.
- Breath Weapon: Naturally.
- Instant Awesome, Just Add Dragons
- Kid Hero
- Multiple Choice Past: In Dangerous Detour, he was found in a capsule, most likely being from outer space. But here, he suddenly was an orphan in the city Eisenheim, where he was found by Jaryl.
- Only One Name
- Sleeves Are for Wimps
- Wings Do Nothing: It's currently unknown if he's able to use them for flying.
Shelly
"Aw, you don't want to tell him the whole story?", Shelly reckons, then she looks at me with a fat grin on her face and whispers into my ear: "Or are those things we did back then too embarrassing for you?" |
Jaryls girlfriend, a Panther-Woman, which he hadn't met since two years. Nothing much is known of her past, but it's been stated that she, like Jaryl, was in a mercenary-group.
- Cat Grin: Bonus Points for her being a Panther...
- Fur Is Skin: Played straight.
- Green Eyes
- Hired Guns: Well, she was one, at least...
- Official Couple: She seems to be very acquainted with Jaryl, and it's all but blatantly stated that both obviously have feelings for each other.
- Pirate: At least Jaryl made the comparision to one when he described her clothing.
- Red Oni: Much more perky than Jaryl.
- The Alcoholic: Is shown to drink beer.
- The Ladette: Gives off the impression.
- The Lancer: To Jaryls The Hero. She's a bit more peppy than him.
Nathan
"Well, it's easy: We're bringing their plan to a standstill" |
A dragon who deserted from the army of his clan and is now trying to kill their King in order to stop the obliteration of the other races.
- Brown Eyes
- Depending on the Artist: He also suffers a bit under this, but rather mainly concerning his head and how many "fins" he has or how they look. On his newest artwork (shown to the right), they even look like fins from a fish, but that doesn't really detract from his appearance, it rather gives him a different look from the norm.
- Good Old Fisticuffs: Didn't even bother to use his firebreath when he killed the other dragon.
- Kill Steal: Killed the dragon Jaryl himself was currently trying to mortally stab. Jaryl puts this appropiately:
"What... from which ass did you just crawl out!?!" |
- Lightning Bruiser
- Mook Face Turn: Helped the other Main Characters and later revealed that he's fed up with what his Clan is doing, so he now helps Jaryl and co. in bringing the Dragon-King down.
- Mr. Fanservice
- Stupid Sexy Nathan: He's really buff. Jaryl even gets envious because of his muscles:
Nathan himself is very muscular and athletic, I'm getting a little bit envious... w-well, anyway, I should stop thinking about that and give him an answer to his question. |
- The Big Guy: Well, it's obvious, since he's a dragon.
- The Nicknamer: Though Jaryl is, so far, his only victim, whom he is calling "Redeye".
