Dumnestor's Heroes is a webcomic by Irony-chan (also the creator of Get Medieval) about an adventuring party in a classic Fantasy setting who are really the player characters of a group of tabletop gamers.
The in-game story is that an elf prince got turned into a human as the result of a poorly-worded request to his god, and he and a dwarven accountant are rescued from their orc abductors by a female human rogue. The three of them find themselves caught into a series of adventures--because the junior god who made the initial mistake is trying to justify himself before the rest of the pantheon by claiming he intends to take the characters on a heroic quest.
The series has been on indefinite hiatus since January 2010.
Tropes used in Dumnestor's Heroes include:
- Action Girl: Sue.
- Aerith and Bob
- Anti-Hero: Sue. "Heroism is difficult, dirty, and unrewarding."
- Break the Haughty: Alariel.
- Cloudcuckoolander: The Virgins.
- Deep-Immersion Gaming
- Damsel in Distress: Played straight at first, and then quickly subverted once the gamer got back in charge of her player character.
- The Ditz: Dark Lordess Tyfnee.
- Emo Teen: Emmy. Binding her own soul into a magic sword hasn't improved her any.
- Fan Service: The Sixteen (naked) Virgins of Tythus, the Waterways God.
- Fantastic Aesop: Elvish prejudice against humans is as bad as human prejudice against elves.
- Feathered Fiend: The roc.
- Genre Savvy: Sue.
- Gentle Giant: Crunch turns out to be one.
- He Is Not My Boyfriend: Sue.
- Humanity Ensues: From elf to human. It was apparently more unpleasant than it sounds.
- Jerkass Gods
- Last of His Kind: Crunch is the last ogre left.
- Ninja Pirate Zombie Robot: ...monkeys.
- Non-Action Guy: Laurien and Koln.
- Supervillain Lair: Lampshaded. "Crumbly old castles are cheap. Prop 'em up, put up a flag, voilà ! Instant fortress of evil!"
- The Mole: The head priestess of the temple of Tythus.
- Rickroll: A live version.
- Shout-Out: To Ghostbusters in this strip [dead link]. "If anyone asks if we're gods, say yes, okay?"
- Theme Naming: The necromancers are named after astronomical bodies (Antares, Andromeda, etc.)
- Trickster God: Dumnestor's brother.
- Wingding Eyes: The roc, when it is killed by Crunch.
