Fill the Moon/Awesome

Everything About Fiction You Never Wanted to Know.

  • This one is fairly recent, but because of the fact that is is pretty much the most badass thing in the whole series, it definitely deserves the top spot. Lexaeus, who is normally unflappable, calm, and collected, takes Larxene on a mission to Halloweentown, which has already been established as a Crap Saccharine World knowing full well she is mentally unstable at the moment, and tasking himself with protecting her. That's not the best part. The best part is after Larxene is confronted by the Leechgrave, which has taken on the shape of Relane, who may or may not be her "other" come back from the dead. It's complicated. But even that's not the best part. She's been eaten by the Leechgrave already, and after fighting it off, a Crowning Moment of Awesome for her by itself, she's on the verge of collapsing and being killed. Then the Curb Stomp Battle ensues.
    • To wit; Lexaeus finds her, mind broken and half-dead, and goes ballistic. Tranquil Fury is not enough to describe it; he skins the Tentaclaws alive, crushes them under his feet, and snaps them in half before facing down the Leechgrave. He doesn't say a word before punching through it and using the pieces to beat the tentaclaws to death.
    • And then it loops right back to Crowning Moment of Heartwarming when he goes back to Larxene.

"Open your eyes, Larxene. Our sun is rising."

  • Sunny Jim is a little Shadow Heartless with a cutesy name. He's the adorable Team Pet, and possibly couldn't be anything other than quirky comic relief, right? Wrong. This "cute little Heartless" manages to warn Zexion of Xemnas' plans to impregnate Senayax, his mistress, having fatal consequences, alerts Axel to the pregnancy, leading to a fight between him and Zexion, and despite all odds, and all the horrible things his mistress goes through, stays by her side, ever-loyal and always faithful. He survives the "purification" of the World That Never Was, despite being a creature of pure darkness, for god's sake!
    • While surviving Kingdom Heart's "purge" was pretty awesome, Word of God has mentioned that he is a fragment of Sora's Heartless in some way, and managed to survive due to The Power of Love that he had for Senayax. Doesn't make him any less badass, but still...
    • It helps that he's also a MAJOR Chekhov's Gunman by the time of the "Mother" arc. By spying on Lexaeus, who had witnessed the incident firsthand, he manages to force the other five Apprentices to tell Zexion the truth about what was really going to happen to his lover...
  • Roxas gets a few badass moments here and there, but his one crowning glory has to be the second-to-last chapter of Fill the Moon; he's giving a Hannibal Lecture plus the Reason Why You Suck Speech to both Kingdom Hearts and Hollowmoon, who were both just indirectly responsible for the murder of both Senayax and Zexion.
  • It's been mentioned before, but this troper believes it bears further mention; Demyx basically laying waste to half of Port Royal as a pissed-off storm god is one of the coolest things in the whole series, bar none. No one gets any warning before he snaps; not even a Pre-Ass-Kicking One-Liner to be had before he basically tears the cave that he, Xigbar, and the captain and crew of the Black Pearl are in right to shreds, and THEN decides he wants to really get dangerous and then, in order...
    • Hijacks a pirate ship
    • Summons an honest-to-god hurricane
    • Drowns around one hundred to two hundred Heartless
    • Does his best to murder undead zombie pirates, and at least puts them, and the Black Pearl, out of commission for a time.
    • The best part about this is that it was directly written as a Take That to people who made Demyx a ditzy, Keet, Uke-tastic moeblob all the time. Despite the author making Demyx a ditzy keet and uke-y moeblob for most of the time...
    • Hey, if anything, that makes his freak out even better. Beware the Nice Ones at its finest, I say.
  • Senayax talks back to Hollowmoon. That doesn't sound awesome enough, huh? Well, considering Hollowmoon is the series' absolute worst Complete Monster and the darkness inside Kingdom Hearts and her own body, you might want to reconsider. Secondly, this is merely days after she was impregnated by her lover, Zexion, due to her father's orders, and is still dealing with the ensuing fallout. Third, it's just what she says to him that makes it so awesome.

You shut the hell up about Zexion. You shut your face up, pigfolker, an' you never say nothing' 'bout him again.

    • The best part? It's enough to make him back off. Senayax's absolute and utter hatred of him in that moment is enough to spook even an Eldritch Abomination. Badass.
  • Speaking of people cussing out Hollowmoon, Demyx, of all people, gets a shot at this. Hollowmoon is being his usual sleazy self, and, well...

The beast narrowed his eyes.
"Well, whatever you want, fuck off. I'm enjoying my time here-did you know this little girl's already being lusted after?" Its' voice dropped to a croon. "Poor ickle thing. She'll get someone's cock shoved between those silky little thighs soon enough, won't she? Wonder if her tight little pussy can take it-"
Demyx finally lost it.
"SHUT UP!" He roared, slamming Arpeggio down on its' head. The beast growled, and Sora gasped softly. Both DiZ and Mickey watched in complete shock. No one had expected the sudden burst of rage from the innocent-looking blonde.
"FUCK YOU!" He screamed. "JUST FUCK YOU! DON'T YOU EVER SAY SOMETHING LIKE THAT ABOUT OUR YAYA! NOT EVER!" He bellowed, shuddering with rage and hatred.

  • ...That is one of the best examples of Precision F-Strike I have ever seen. That is all.
  • In that same chapter, in what is both a Crowning Moment of Awesome and a Crowning Moment of Funny, Senayax faces down Sephiroth. Yes, that Sephiroth. And she beats the everloving crap out of him.
  • Vexen's fight with Maleficent, of all people, is both slightly unsettling and the best thing ever. First, Marluxia, who is arguably much more combat-capable than he is, tries to take her down before she tears him open. Seeing his lover, (well, not like he would ever admit it), hurt spurs the normally Technical Pacifist Vexen into Tranquil Fury and complete and utter insanity. He uses his shield to deflect her flames back at her and break his fall, and then makes her wings completely useless so she is at his mercy. And then you see why messing with Vexen is a bad, bad idea. He tears out the bones of her wings, rips her tongue from her mouth, wrenches off one of her horns, and then, rather mercifully, lets her die. All the while covered in her blood and completely silent.
    • The best part is his pure Deadpan Snarker comment as he brings Marluxia back home.

"I told you a shield had its uses."
