Hercules (1997 film)/Trivia

Everything About Fiction You Never Wanted to Know.

  • All There in the Manual: The Titan's names are Stratos, Lythos, Pyros, and, rather unfittingly for his powers, Hydros.
  • Hey, It's That Voice!: Hades is James Woods; Phil is Danny DeVito; Hermes is Paul Shaffer, best known for being David Letterman's band leader. And Zeus is Rip Torn!
    • The best part? Come time for Recycled: the Series, Hades is still James Woods. And whenever Hades shows up in House of Mouse it's James Woods (well, except for "House of Villains", where he has all of two singing lines, so Rob Paulsen fills in). And in the Kingdom Hearts series it's James Woods again (well, except for Kingdom Hearts Chain of Memories and Kingdom Hearts coded, where his only lines are Boss Banter because of technical limitations, so archival clips of James Woods fill in). He did say something about how he enjoyed playing the part so much that he would always do it if asked, and he also does it for his kids.
    • The fat singing Muse would later go on to play Bubbie the whale.
    • Ricky Martin played Hercules for the Latin American Dub. Tatiana, a children's television show host famous for her songs, played Megara also in the Latin American Dub.
    • Meg goes on to be snarky and independent some more as Rin/Lin in Spirited Away.
      • She also voices Gina, an independent woman that sings in the club she owns in Porco Rosso.
    • Fans of Friends will quickly recognize Aphrodite's voice as that of Lisa Kudrow.
    • For fans of stand-up comedy, the distinctively-voiced Bobcat Goldthwait is Pain.
    • And for musical theatre folks, Hercules' singing voice is Carmen Ghia.
    • Panic is Max Headroom (or for the younger set, the White Knight and Pestilence.)
    • The centaur Nessus and the Fat Thebian are voiced by Jim Cummings, who was also Rasul in Aladdin, another Disney comedy directed by Ron and Jon.
    • Also, in the animated series, James Woods' return brought many, many famous voices as guests.
    • Keith David is Apollo.
  • The Other Darrin/Poor Man's Substitute: The only replaced voices were Charlton Heston, Rip Torn and Danny DeVito.
    • And if you want to get really technical, Tate Donovan becomes The Other Darrin for Josh Keaton's Young Herc.
