Folklore

Just noticed that the default template links to Folklore, a disambiguation page. Should this not link to a redirect to the category, like all the other subheadings? @Labster @Looney Toons @GethN7 @Robkelk

We could, but then "Oral Tradition, Folklore, Myths and Legends" would link to "Oral Tradition, Oral Tradition, and Oral Tradition". --Robkelk (talk) 19:15, 30 April 2023 (UTC)
Ah, I see, so then the second link should be removed? RivetVermin (talk) 20:34, 30 April 2023 (UTC)
Hi, just trying to get a bit of a discussion going on this, as I really think this has to be a fault. Or am I missing some obvious reason why every single trope page needs to link to a disambiguation page for unrelated films, video games, or albums?

There are any number of things that we could be doing: link the entire section title to Oral Tradition, link only part of the title, link each part of the title, get rid of the link, or something else.

 • Link the entire section title to Oral Tradition: People are going to wonder why we have the different names.
 • Link only part of the title: People are going to wonder why we don't have links on the different names.
 • Link each part of the title: People are going to wonder why we have different names for the same thing.
 • Get rid of the link: Somebody would add it back in, for consistency with the rest of the section headers.

There's no perfect solution. Which solution is least imperfect?

(Speaking for myself only, I like "link the entire section title to Oral Tradition".)

I would also second "link the entire section title to Oral Tradition" as Folklore, Myths and Legends are already a subcategory of Oral Tradition, so it would at least be consistent. RivetVermin (talk) 15:48, 20 May 2023 (UTC)

I'm okay with linking the entire title, as well. --Looney Toons (talk) 18:13, 22 May 2023 (UTC)

Change to tropes header template

As per previous discussion, I'd like to suggest changing the standard header formatting from this:

Oral Tradition, Folklore, Myths and Legends
to

Oral Tradition, Folklore, Myths and Legends
as the page for Folklore is a disambiguation page that simply links back around to Oral Tradition anyway. In addition to looking cleaner, rolling this out to all trope pages would also drastically reduce the number of links to disambiguation pages.

I have no problems with this -- in fact, I've been doing it by hand for a while and have modified my offline copy of the trope page template accordingly.
(Oh, and by the way, your coding for the "@" pings doesn't do anything. What you want is the FlowMention template, which you use like this:
User Name Here
For instance RivetVermin produces @RivetVermin.)

Thank you and apologies, I shall try pinging everyone correctly this time RivetVermin (talk) 11:49, 19 December 2023 (UTC)
