—Steve Rogers

Rogers: the Musical is a short 2023 musical at the Hyperion theater in Disneyland. It is based on a short segment that premiered in the MCU series Hawkeye and is about Steve Rogers, aka Captain America.

How are heroes made? Who was Captain America, before the serum? We see Steve Rogers and how his determination to serve his country led him to becoming the first Avenger. He also finds and loses the women he loves, leads the Avengers through good and bad times, and learns to dance.

Tropes used in Rogers: The Musical include:
  • Adaptation Distillation: The 37-minute musical condenses the Captain America trilogy, the Avengers trilogy, and the films in-between. As a result, they have to skip over scenes like Captain America reuniting with Bucky, the Howling Commandos, the Sokovia Accords, and the battle with Thanos.
  • Adaptational Personality Adjustment: Nick Fury in the MCU is the Comically Serious and a cynical SHIELD director who does not have patience for Tony Stark's nonsense, and would rather keep the world safe from external threats. In the musical, he is a Large Ham that endorses Tony and quickly gets Steve up-to-date on what happened in the past seventy years.
  • Amazon Admirer: Steve falls for Peggy when she defends him from a Jerkass soldier.
  • Chekhov's Gunman: Woman rather. Peggy appears when defending Steve from a Jerkass soldier that shoves him around. Later, she tells Steve that she and Dr. Erskine have been scouting him to see if he is perfect for their project.
  • Due to the Dead: Peggy has been going to the dance hall every Saturday at 8 since Steve vanished, to honor the date that she and Steve never had. When Steve finally appears using time travel and apologizes for being late, she smiles and hugs him.
  • Earn Your Happy Ending: Old!Steve convinces Present!Steve that it's okay for him to use time travel to go back and settle down with Peggy. He's fought enough, and "time" can heal the wounds and trauma that he has accumulated. Peggy is waiting for him, and they reunite with The Big Damn Kiss.
  • Heroic BSOD: Steve falls into one when he's forced to fight the Winter Soldier in New York, collapsing on the ground. Old!Steve snaps him out of it by giving him an out: reuniting with Peggy for the promised date.
  • Lampshade Hanging: After he receives the Vita-Rays, Steve thanks the backup dancers for appearing, only to ask why the super-serum experiment needed backup dancers.
  • Mythology Gag: "Star-Spangled Man," the song that Captain America performed with in his debut movie, appears as a Pep Talk Song when he receives the Vita-Rays.
  • Not So Stoic: After being a tough lady and commanding officer, Peggy's voice breaks when she loses transmission with Steve.
  • Screw the Rules, I'm Doing What's Right: Peggy knows that helping Steve fly to Austria to rescue Bucky and the 107th division would mean a court-martial for both of them. She arranges a flight for him, and orders him to come back alive.
  • Shout-Out: The Greek Chorus, the Starkettes, are a reference to Ronette, Chiffon and Crystal from Little Shop of Horrors. They break the fourth wall constantly and appear in all songs.
  • Triumphant Reprise: The Starkettes end the musical with one of "Save the City" after Peggy and Steve reunite in the past. Everyone joins in for a Dance Party Ending.
