Saint Seiya: The Lost Canvas/YMMV

Everything About Fiction You Never Wanted to Know.

  • Adaptation Displacement: Being an "official" doujinshi prequel of the original series.
  • Alas, Poor Villain: Bennu Kagaho and Harpy Valentine.
    • The Lost Canvas version of Aiacos got the lucky break of getting this without dying. Last we saw of him, Kagaho let him live his remaining days in peace.
    • Also Behemoth Violate and Basilisk Sylphid.
  • Complete Monster: A fair few of them, although this troper thinks the worst one might be Garuda Aiacos... until he gets a second chance (ish) thanks to Bennu Kagaho. Before that, he was nasty.
  • Creator's Pet: Regulus.
    • Youma and Owl Partita, considering how much bonus art they receive in the back of Volumes.
    • Rhadamanthys, for God's sake. His Plot Armor was thicker than in iceberg.
  • Ensemble Darkhorse : Bennu Kagaho. It helps that he's an expy of Phoenix Ikki.
    • The Gold Saints were this in the original series and one of the main reasons why they're the protagonists in the this series.
  • Growing the Beard: To many Lost Canvas fans, the series only got good starting from the Minos vs Albafica fight.
  • Moral Event Horizon: There is one, and Alone's crossed it... although he does think he's doing it to end all suffering.
  • Rescued from the Scrappy Heap: Pisces Albafica and Cancer Manigoldo seem to fall under this trope in Lost Canvas, compared to the original series. Pegasus Tenma might also fall under this as he's far more likeable than Seiya to some fans.
  • Squick: In this universe, it is revealed that Shion mindraped the Cloths he had to repair and derived entrancing pleasure from it. Ewww. Even if he atoned for it, Ewww.
  • Take That, Scrappy!: For all the allegations of Mephistopheles Youma being a bit of a Villain Sue, well... it just makes his eventual defeat at the hands of Gemini Aspros all the more satisfying.
  • Tear Jerker: This! Is! SAINT SEIYA!... after all. So the torrent of Manly Tears is pretty much a given.
    • One of the first is Pisces Albafica's last stand and death against Griffin Minos. In fact, it is hard not to sob throughout Capricorn El Cid's final scenes. Actually, make that all of the currently dead Gold Saints' final moments, with special mentions to Taurus Aldebaran, Cancer Manigoldo, Scorpio Kardia, Virgo Asmita... hell, all of them. It's all tragic. Damn series premise!
    • But the one that takes the cake is Unicorn Yato.
  • The Scrappy: Alone, for his Salvation Plan. Despite being labeled the purest person on the planet, their is a sizable portion of the fandom calling him more monstrous then Hades.
  • The Woobie: Crane Yuzuriha in the Lost Canvas Gaiden.
    • Gemini Defteros's backstory.
