The Something series is a Super Mario World RomHack series by Yogui. They are known for their well-made levels. Something is about Mario retrieving the stolen plot from a villain. Something Else focuses on Luigi and his adventures in another world.

Tropes used in Something (ROM Hack) include:
  • Acrofatic: Ballser. Ballser speeds up during the last boss fight in Something. In his last phase, Ballser gains a pair wings to become more faster and uses his weight to create earthquakes and stun-lock Mario.
  • Action Bomb: In addition to the Bob-ombs, the pink Bullet Birds, the red Bomb Boos and the dull red Yoshi Koopas explode.
  • Ancient Tomb: Kabu Katakomb is an Auto Scrolling Level where Luigi has to dodge the Kabus and the bats.
  • Animate Body Parts: Bigeye is a giant eyeball. He's quite easy to beat.
  • Anti-Frustration Features: The game brings up the save prompt after every level completion. This makes the game easier in the saving aspect in comparison to the original Super Mario World, which only brings up the save prompt after completing a Ghost House, Castle or Fortress level.
  • Author Appeal: Yogui likes to put crude penises in various places. He also likes the Mega Man series because many references from those games in appear within the Something Series.
  • Author Avatar: Yogui's Avatar shows up when you achieve Hundred-Percent Completion in both Something games and congratulates you for completing the game.
  • Auto Scrolling Level:
    • Perilous Ice, which is made even more dangerous because of the ice physics, Pokeys and tiny Mario clones. Luckily, Yoshi is there to make things easier. You need him for the Switch Palace Exit.
    • Vertical Chao, where Mario has to dodge many enemies and obstacles while riding on a very tiny platform.
    • Vile Vine, where Luigi has to climb a green apple vine while dodging enemies. To get the secret exit, Luigi has to beat the green apple vine in a race. If Luigi loses, the apple devours the door to the secret exit.
    • Above the World is found in the Special World. Luigi has to dodge Flying Wigglers and Fire Bars while climbing to the top using the tiny acorns that cover the level. The second section is horizontally-scrolling and changes up the enemies. At one point, the game lies to the player and announces that it will be a Marathon Level, but another message box tells the player that the first message box is lying.
  • Big Bad:
    • Ballser is the big bad of Something because he was responsible for stealing the plot.
    • The Evil Guy in Something Else because he kidnapped the Village Elder, the only one who can send Luigi back home.
  • Blackout Basement: The primary gimmick of Darkave in Something Else. Fortunately, there are blocks that light up certain parts of the game.
  • Block Puzzle: The primary gimmick of Flower Tower. Luigi has to push giant pots around obstacle-filled courses in order to reach the end of the level.
  • Book Ends: The game begins with a description of the stolen plot and ends with a description of the plot itself.
  • Boring Return Journey: Mario calls a Taxi and heads back to the Mushroom Kingdom after recovering the scenario from Ballser.
  • Born as an Adult: Some of the eggs in Kinder Surprise skip the larval phase and attack Mario as adult Pidgit Bills, Masked Koopas, and Caped Koopas.
  • Boss Arena Idiocy:
    • The boss of the Chateau du Vent has plenty of throw blocks in its arena. If these blocks were replaced with an ordinary platform, the boss fight would be impossible.
    • The boss of Chateau de la Terre still has the throw block problem, but there's only three throw blocks in said arena.
  • Boss Rush: The True Final Boss in Something. To make things more difficult, Mario has to do it as Small Mario.
  • Boss Room: The boss levels in Something Else have an area where Luigi prepare for the boss.
  • Breath Weapon:
    • The Dark Green Baby Yoshis in Something Else are sprite-swaps of the Dino Torches and have the same behavior as them.
    • The Sakura Tori is a pink bird and it can spit fireballs at its foes.
  • Bubbly Clouds: World 2 in Something Else takes place in a cloudy area and as an homage to Kirby's Dreamland 3, the Bubbly Clouds map BGM is used as the BGM for this level.
  • Bullet Hell: The boss of Yosu no Tera in Something. Mario has to dodge patterns of sprite-swapped bullets in a room of spikes. The boss got recycled for a Bonus Level in Something Else.
