Why is this the case? Also I find it kind of funny that there is a template encouraging people to add descriptions when ~9 people are capable of preforming that task.

Well. That's odd. According to the protection log and the pages I can see, it's supposed to be limited to logged-in users only. There's no record of it being changed to Admins-only. And the protection was only there because we had a one or more illiterate contributors who wouldn't engage with us, and wouldn't stop editing, and ban-evaded to just keep putting gutter-quality edits into the page.
I've changed this back to "allow all users" because between the mod tool and the disappearance of the obsessed illiterates the protection is no longer needed.

If you're concerned that you are one of the illiterate contributors I was referring to, you're not. That message was from nearly a year and a half ago (February 2022), and referred to edits made more than a year earlier than that, in late 2020. Those contributions were made by unregistered anonymous users, and you registered long before they were a problem.
