Trope Workshop:Dusting Off Your Hands

Everything About Fiction You Never Wanted to Know.


Just taking care of business.

When a character gets in a scuffle with another character and after doing something like winning a fight or kicking them out of the premises of a club or something they slap their hands past one another up and down.

This is their way of saying "That takes care of that!", bonus points if there's visible dust from their hands.

  • In Pokémon, in the episode "Ditto's Mysterious Mansion," Team Rocket kidnaps Duplica's Ditto and Jesse orders it to transform into a boy in a picture. The first 2 times Ditto fails, James and Meowth laugh at the whole ordeal causing Jesse to beat them up and she dusts her hands off afterwards.

Film

  • In Ruthless People Barbara affectionately dusts her hands after knocking her Jerkass treacherous husband off a pier for trying to have her murdered to receive her inheritance.
  • In the second Silent Night, Deadly Night film a soon to be unfortunately murdered man dusts his hands after taking out the trash before Richard, armed with a stolen police revolver, shouts "Garbage day!" before shooting him dead.

  • In Hazbin Hotel, in the pilot Charlie picks up various lewd magazines some demon sinners are holding and throws them into a fiery pit dusting her hands off afterwards in her song "Inside of Every Demon is a Rainbow".
