Your move of "My Hero Academia/Characters/One For All and its Torchbearers" has been undone

You took a work subpage title that uses a term the way the term is used in the work, and changed it to use a different term because that's what TV Tropes does.

All The Tropes is as much a reference site as it is a troping site, and using terms that aren't in the source makes this site less useful as a reference.

Also, "that's what TV Tropes does" is never a valid excuse to do the same thing here. The other admins could tell you horror stories about how TV Tropes did things before this wiki was founded. I was never on TVT, but I've literally spent years cleaning up some of the messes that they decided to make, and I'm nowhere near finished yet. Please don't do something just to copy somebody else.

Looney Toons (talkcontribs)

Seconded. While it's not official policy, the admins are inclined to view an edit reason of "because TV Tropes does it this way" as equivalent to "I decided to be a Wiki Vandal today". If we're doing something differently from TVT, it's because we've got a damned good reason to.

Mrkelangelo (talkcontribs)

With all due respect, you are mistaken; I changed the subpage title because it was the same as on TV Tropes, not because I wanted to copy TV Tropes. Sorry for the misunderstanding, but we actually share the same line of thinking.

To boot, the word "torchbearer" isn't used in the manga at all, and is purely used by TV Tropes' version of the page. That's why I changed it.

Robkelk (talkcontribs)

I see that Wikipedia uses the term "Torch bearer".

At this point, I'm going to have to ask for a page scan showing the term used by the professionally-released media.

My apologies...

The notifications I should have received for the message you posted on my meta.miraheze user talk page got caught in my ISP's spam filter, and I only found them tonight. I've checked your account and it has autopatrolled set, and I see you've made at least one edit in the last couple days. Are you still having some kind of problem?

Mrkelangelo (talkcontribs)

No, it was a false alarm; I panicked when things weren't looking normal, but they were back to normal in a matter of minutes. So, this one's on me! Apologies.

General 'thanks' post for all the MHA work.

You planning to target any other major works down the line?

Mrkelangelo (talkcontribs)

Don't know. I'll see about it as I go along. JoJo and The Lion King look tempting, though!

Thank you for all the contributions you've made since joining the wiki! However, we need to point something out about your recent upload of the file Deku.png: It's missing a lot of information we are legally required or request as terribly useful. The most important of these is the license terms under which we can use the image. Please see the page All The Tropes:Uploading and Adding an Image to a Page, particularly the section "Licensing".

We really need you to provide at the very least the licensing information for this image. URLs to where it came from would be great, too, in case we have another instance where we lose images like has happened to us once before.

Can you please take care of this in the next 48 hours or so? (Say, by noon EDT on 20 June?) If you don't we'll have to delete the image to protect the wiki from legal liability.

Thank you!

Here's what I could find.

This work is copyrighted and unlicensed. However, it is believed that the use of this work:

To illustrate the object in question. Where no free equivalent is available or could be created that would adequately give the same information. On My Hero Academia Wiki, hosted on servers in the United States by Wikia, Inc. (fandom.com) ...qualifies as Fair Use under United States copyright law. Any other uses of this image, on Wikia or elsewhere, may be copyright infringement.

To the uploader: This tag is a claim. Only the original creator is the owner. This image is used for demonstration/information/entertainment NOT:

Credit Profit Theft Glory

Mrkelangelo (talkcontribs)

Is it possible to edit the licensing information on the uploaded photo? If so, how do I do that?

Looney Toons (talkcontribs)

Cool -- It's a Wikia/Fandom.com image. That's not bad -- Fandom uses the Creative Commons Attribution-Share Alike License 3.0 (Unported) (CC-BY-SA) license, which is nicely compatible with us. If you haven't already done so as I type this, head over the file's page and add {{CC-BY-SA}} to the licensing section, add the text you pasted above plus URL of the file to the description, and just to round things out, throw in the category for My Hero Academia. Legally, all we need is the license terms, but the source info helps with that as well as letting us re-acquire the image if something happens to our copy.

Looney Toons (talkcontribs)

Heh, crossed signals. Just edit the page and add something that looks like this:

== Summary ==

((where you got the image, the license text you put above))

== Licensing ==

{{CC-BY-SA}}

[[Category:My Hero Academia]]

Mrkelangelo (talkcontribs)

Thank you! Done and done. ;) Glad we got that sorted out.

Looney Toons (talkcontribs)

Me, too.

Robkelk (talkcontribs)

Hello! I see that you've just uploaded File:Tenya Iida hero profile.png. There's a slight problem - while the wikia where you got the image is CC-BY-SA, the image itself is not.

On wikia/fandom, you can see the license that they're using the image under if you hover your cursor over the filename in the popout window. In this case, it's a copyrighted image being used under fair use provisions of copyright law.

I've fixed that for you already...

@Looney Toons @Mrkelangelo

Mrkelangelo (talkcontribs)

Thank you! Good to know everything is okay.

Looney Toons (talkcontribs)

Whoops, sorry for the bad/incomplete advice there.

Mrkelangelo (talkcontribs)

Actually, I'm the one at fault for assuming all images there are CC-BY-SA.

Copyright violation

Looney Toons (talkcontribs)

The page Momma's Boy/Laconic has been deleted as it was a word-for-word copy of the page at TV Tropes. If you have read the welcome pages for new users you will know that this is a copyright violation and illegal. If you haven't, you can find the specifics at All The Tropes:Copyrights.

This is a formal warning, per the policy page All The Tropes:How We Do Bans Around Here: If you post copyrighted material from TV Tropes again, you will receive a 2-week tempban. Further posting after that tempban expires will net you further and longer tempbans. Please respond in this thread to acknowledge receipt of this warning and to confirm your compliance. Failure to respond promptly will net you a short non-punitive "attention-getter" tempban that will be lifted as soon as you reply.

Mrkelangelo (talkcontribs)

Duly noted. Thank you for the reprimand.

Looney Toons (talkcontribs)

Thank you for the quick response. We're usually ignored until the tempbans come around, and then it's pleas of ignorance everywhere.
