I'll kill a man in a fair fight... or if I think he's gonna start a fair fight. Or if he bothers me. Or if there's a woman. Or if I'm gettin' paid. Mostly only when I'm gettin' paid.

"He robbed from the rich
And he gave to the poor
He stood up to the Man
And he gave him what for
Our love for him now
Ain't hard to explain
The Hero of Canton
The man they call Jayne..."

—"The Ballad of Jayne Cobb" from the Firefly episode "Jaynestown"

Adam Baldwin (February 27, 1962 - ) (no relation to the "Baldwin brothers"--Alec, William, Daniel, and Stephen) is an American actor who's made a name for himself playing military, law enforcement, and general Badass types in TV and movies, fitting him as he is a fairly large, strong guy (standing about 6'4). Some of his semi-major roles include The X-Files, Stargate SG-1, Wyatt Earp, and Independence Day. What really put him into the public focus was his role as the Anti-Hero criminal Jayne Cobb in the cult sci-fi series Firefly. Since then he is also known for his role as premiere Badass John Casey in Chuck.

Born in 1962 in Chicago, he graduated from New Trier Township High School East, a school that produced many other well-known actors and actresses, including Charlton Heston, Rock Hudson, and Rainn Wilson, as well as half of Fall Out Boy. Baldwin also works as a voice actor, and voiced Hal Jordan, the Silver Age Green Lantern on Justice League, along with fellow Firefly stars Nathan Fillion, Gina Torres, and Morena Baccarin (They never appeared in the same episode, though). Currently blogs on the political blog Big Hollywood and Twitter.[when?] He is a registered Democrat but describes himself as a "small government conservative libertarian."

In 2014, he came up with the #GamerGate hashtag on Twitter[1][2] after watching videos by Internet Aristocrat (also known as Mister Metokur) and sympathized with the pro-Gamergaters' cause.

He is also perhaps the only person to work with both Stanley Kubrick and Joss Whedon.

Adam Baldwin is the Trope Namer for:
  • Gamergate - he was the first to use the term as a hashtag, bringing it to the public consciousness.
