Everything About Fiction You Never Wanted to Know.

  • Complete Monster: "The Spades King", the king of darkness and the Big Bad of Chapter 1. He is introduced coldly scolding his son Lancer for making friends with "Lighteners" before grabbing and threatening to kill said son to make the Lighteners kneel to him. He then tries to force Lancer to watch his friends die to "teach him a lesson". After Susie, Kris and Ralsei defeat him, he manipulates Ralsei's idealism making up a Freudian Excuse and instantly trying to kill them again once Ralsei heals him. He is a petty cruel tyrant who establishes the darker tone of the sequel.
  • Ear Worm: Naturally, it's a Toby Fox game.
    • K. Round's themes are super-catchy, helped by the fact that K. Round steps in time to the beat.
    • Spamton's themes, especially "NOW'S YOUR CHANCE TO BE A" and "BIG SHOT" - never before has any game made the sound of a ringing phone so wonderful.
  • The Woobie: There are a few characters that fall under this:
    • Susie is more of a Jerkass Woobie. She's a bully that steals chalk and threatens to beat up anyone in chapter one, including Kris. It's hinted that she's food-deprived at home and does regular self-harming. When she gets trapped in another world with Kris, her first response is to try and find an escape, by barreling past any monster or trap. When Lancer seems to betray the Lighteners, she's crying when angrily confronting him. Later, she admits that she wants friends, and to learn to be better, but she's not good at it.
    • Lancer claims that he is the bad guy, and serves his father. We find out that it's not that simple: the Spade King is no prize when it comes to parenting, and is willing to murder his son to get what he wants. Lancer is plain terrified of him, while loving the Spade King too much to see him killed. Fortunately, he gets his happy ending in Chapter Two when Ralsei gives him a customized room in his palace, and Queen agrees to adopt him.
    • In this timeline, Asgore is not a killer as far as the player knows. With that said, supplementary material in Chapter Two reveals that he was once the police chief, until an unknown incident got him fired. Whatever it was, Kris is so ashamed they refuse to read about it. Asgore and Toriel divorced around this time, and he's moved into a flower shop. while on the brink of eviction because he keeps giving flowers away to friends and ferrying them to his ex-wife. Even Toriel feels sorry for him, while not willing to give him a second chance.
    • Noelle is a sweet girl whose father may have a terminal condition, and she has a crush on the toughest girl in class. Berdly constantly ropes her in as his study partner, even when she tries to speak up and says she wouldn't mind working with Kris or Susie. Then Queen kidnaps her and Berdly, and she's forced to hide with a bag on her head. In the normal route, Noelle tries to reason with Berdly, whom the Queen has convinced to join her, saying that if she formed a truce with Kris and he did the same, then they're all on the same side. She's shocked and screaming for Berdly to stop when he challenges them to a boss fight, unable to believe that a friend would attack her lethally. To top it all off, it's revealed she has a crush on Susie, but is too shy to ask her out. That's not even going into the Weird Route, where you manipulate her into killing the Cyberworld monsters, and turning Berdly into a block of ice.
