Power Rangers/Awesome

Everything About Fiction You Never Wanted to Know.

Mighty Morphin':

The Movie:

  • Aisha gets one during the final battle, when she pushes a Big Red Button to make the Ninja Megazord knee Ivan Ooze in the groin, pushing him into the path of a passing comet.
    • It obliterates the laws of physics, but the Rangers' plan to destroy Ivan Ooze was pretty awesome in and of itself. Trick him into taking solid form, lure him into outer space, then shove him into the path of a runaway comet (there's a particularly brilliant moment when Ivan is recoiling from the groin attack, spins around, sees the comet and says softly, "Oh no"). What makes this even more awesome is that, when the movie was released on DVD, the sound effects had been improved. So when the comet slams into Ivan, the resulting explosion is so loud, the windows in your house rattle. It's awesome!

Turbo

  • The season as a whole may not have been awesome, but the finale was awesome. Eltar falls. The Rangers pull a suicide bomber attack, and lose first their weapons and zords, then their powers. The villains storm the Power Chamber and destroy it, cutting the Rangers off from any potential aid. The much-maligned Justin sneaks into the NASADA base, gets all the way to the command center, and manages to talk the others onto a shuttle to venture out and try to do something to stem the coming tide, despite flying blind and totally unarmed... and, end scene. To be continued in Power Rangers in Space.
  • The Megazord vs. Megazord battle, and then T.J. breaking into the hijacked Megazord and fighting the crew.

Ninja Storm:

  • Ninja Storm, in this troper's opinion, had a couple, the first being Tori taking on the five evil versions of her friends in The Wild Wipeout. Even though she was losing (and badly), I still think this was one of her biggest Crowning Moment of Awesome (and Tori had a few) many because no one took them on until she did.
  • Cam taking on Lothor in the Grand finale. The glasses came off, he got up and opened up a can of whoop ass.
  • And the three core Ninja Storm rangers taking on Lothor and winning... WITHOUT THEIR POWERS? That wins the series for me.
    • Well, they used their ninja powers, but it was still cool.
  • It happened in the Dino Thunder team-up, but this troper always found the Brainwashed and Crazy one-on-one fights between the Ninja Storm and Dino Thunder main threes to be awesomely badass. I watched Dino Thunder for Tommy, and I watched Ninja Storm because that entire two-parter made the characters look like paragons of awesome and silly. Ninja Storm is easily my favorite season.
  • Zurgane, who really needed to be let out of the bag more often. Remember how thoroughly he trashed the then-three Rangers in Thunder Strangers, part one (or was it two?) and then all six in General Deception?

Mystic Force

  • After getting de-brainwashed, Koragg/Leanbow's arrival when the Rangers are getting double-teamed by Megahorn and Black Lance. Centaur mode vs. chariot... dude.
  • Ditzy ex-villain Leelee, comic relief "troblin" Phineas, and apprentice sorceress Clare sneaking into the Underworld to get Udonna back. Phineas goes medieval on some Styxoids as the others can only watch openmouthed. Topped only by Leelee taking out the last one, which had gotten back up without Phineas noticing.
    • Phineas was the only character in the entire history of the show to literally wipe the floor with a defeated opponent. Good times.
  • Clare vs. Necrolai, though she did need her mother's borrowed power to do it.
  • In the same episode, two Styxoids get genre-savvy: one wishes he could go fight, the other talks about how the ones who do never come back.
  • Unmorphed Daggeron defeating Imperious... if you can buy it, considering how powerful Impy's been shown to be at other times.
  • Nick versus the Master in the finale, after the Master has killed just about everyone who could've possibly stopped him.

Nick: Not here... NOT NOW ... THIS IS NOT OUR END!.
The Master: You are only one!
Nick: And unfortunately for you, the wrong one.

  • The final battle, when the citizens of Briarwood join hands to retore the Ranger's powers. As the crowd breaks away and the camera pans to show the Rangers back in morph, the theme music fades in and the crowd cheers. In this troper's opinion, it is the only time ever that a role call in Power Rangers has actually been good.
  • The flashback showing the Mystic Mother. AKA the reformed Rita Repulsa. A short bit, but she truly owned it and she conveyed so much with her meager handful of lines.

In General

  • Haim Saban repurchasing the rights to Power Rangers from Disney and bringing the series back with new episodes on Nickelodeon is something nobody saw coming and is definitely a Crowning Moment of Awesome for Saban and the series.
    • A slight bit of Foreshadowing (and a Crowning Moment of Heartwarming) are found in this clip. Cheryl Saban mentioned that she and Haim had something of a difficult time letting go of the franchise (and made it sound as if she didn't really want to) and that they had been keeping track of the series under Disney's helm and referred to it as their child.
    • Even better, he called Disney out for wasting the series' potential, and bought back the franchise specifically for that reason.
    • Turns out he led Disney to believe that Power Rangers would be aired on The Hub, a lesser known channel, not their big-time rival Nickelodeon. While Disney still probably would have sold the series back to him, this move, at the very least, cut the price tag significantly.
      • Haim Saban gets another Crowning Moment of Awesome for that, since he pulled this on Disney. The sheer cajones of pulling a fast one on a company the size and caliber of Disney makes him braver than any Ranger.
      • He also made Disney look like fools in the process as The Hub is co-owned by Hasbro and a lot of its programming is (effectively) half-hour long commercials for its toys, while Power Ranger toys have always been made by Bandai making it highly unlikely that Hasbro would finance a show whose merchandise is one of their biggest rivals.
  • The ENTIRE SHOW gets some awesome points for the simple fact that it seems to be unkillable at this point. Most shows do not survive being canceled once. On rare occasions, a show will be brought back, but usually doesn't last very long after that (The best of circumstances will often let an Uncancelled series get a final season or movie that does little except tie up loose ends before going back to the TV graveyard.) Power Rangers has been canceled at least FIVE times, and hasn't stopped yet. At this point, it's become so ubiquitous in American culture, it's almost like Sesame Street or Saturday Night Live, it seems like it'll never stop.
  • Let's review:
    • The series was started as a 40 episode limited run on Fox Kids, when the show took off, the original ending (in which the Rangers defeat Cyclopsis and seal Rita away in a urn, similar to the ending in Zyuranger, and then go to senior prom, thus making an exception to Dawson Casting) was scrapped and Saban went to Toei to write up a new contract that's still going, (even operating under Disney's rule)
    • Turbo was supposed to end it, but when they were able to drop the silly and get much higher ratings during In Space, it kept going.
    • It was supposed to happen again after Wild Force, due to the Disney buyout, but a couple of former PR producers were working at Disney and convinced them to move it to New Zealand, slicing production costs and making it worthy of saving.
    • Yet again after Jungle Fury. It was saved again after outside forces (Jetix Europe and Bandai) and one final year in the contract with the New Zealand production team pressured Disney to make another season.
    • Finally, after RPM, the show was as close to OVER as its ever been. The stunt crew was let go, production in general was shut down, and (save for the reversioning) the show was off the air for the majority of 2010. However, as mentioned above, Saban called out Disney and brought the show back again.
    • It probably helps that Super Sentai, the show from which Power Rangers draw footage and inspiration, never once stopped.
      • In the words of some Crowning Music of Awesome from seasons two and three - no one will ever take them down; the power lies on their si~ide.
  • Rangers kicking the crap out of monsters? Cool. Kicking the crap out of monsters with "Go go Power Rangers" playing? Awesome. Kicking the crap out of monsters with "Go Go Power Rangers" playing in the back ground for the first time in 15 years?! Crowning Music of Awesome.
  • And now the series is streaming on Netflix! Just in time for Summer break! Thank you, Saban!
  • Saban and Shout! Factory are releasing the entire series up to RPM on DVD and Blu-Ray. Don't you wanna just high five your eight year old self?
  • The series Gokaiger starts off its run with the Legend War, a battle royal with all 35 Sentai Teams against a massive invading army. Sounds like an awesome place to start an adaption from right? Only problem is that a lot of the teams weren't adapted as Power Rangers series, and editing out the corresponding teams would be too difficult. The solution? Toei is reshooting the epic Legend War exclusively with the teams brought over as Power Rangers.
    • Someone made a video of the scenes from the Legend War with the theme to Mighty Morphin Power Rangers!
