Reunion in the Morning Sun

Everything About Fiction You Never Wanted to Know.

Dan: "Oh hi there, tropers. It looks like this fanfic has a tropes page now! Not that it's anywhere close to complete... just like the writer's other fanfics!"

Reunion in the Morning Sun is a Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Explorers of Time/Darkness/Sky fanfic written by Bwburke94. Specifically, it details what happens after the protagonist, Dan the Monferno, re-enters the future after the events of Special Episode 5. Oh, and Dan is completely aware he is in a video game, and he breaks the fourth wall a lot.

To simplify the page, Dan the Monferno will be referred to as simply "Dan" while Dan the human will be referred to as "Human!Dan" for disambiguation.

Tropes used in Reunion in the Morning Sun include:
  • Breaking the Fourth Wall: Quite a lot.
  • Brick Joke: Early in the fic, Dan calls Dusknoir "the bastard child of whomever he is the bastard child of" (in his head) then complains that his back itches. Right at the end of the fic...

"And we all lived happily ever after, except for Dusknoir, that bastard child of I'm-not-repeating-this-whole-speech-again. My back still itches, though, to this day."

"I wonder how seeing a sunrise for the first time felt for those who had never seen one before. That sentence was kind of redundant, and why does the writer keep switching tenses?"

"If you want to know more, buy my game. Or pirate the ROM, I don't really care. The guy who played as me, the one who wrote this piece of crap? He owns the game, but I exist only in a .sav file and this fic in his world since he used a ROM anyway. Apparently, he's saving his real game card for something else."

"Don't be a grammar Nazi, whatever that means. The writer of this fic didn't bother to tell me what a Nazi is or was."

"The guy who played as me, the one who wrote this piece of crap?"

"This is bestiality. This is not whatever this 'Sonic Next-Gen' the author has told me about is."

"Grovyle reached over Dusknoir's second mouth to grab something. Big mistake."

"I knew that having Celebi see me would bring her confusion as to how I got here. Speaking of which, I got to this future through a dimensional hole. Sorry for not telling you that."

  • Which Me?: While no dialogue takes place in which this trope could come into play, Dan discusses the trope.

"I'm using 'he' instead of "me' when referring to my human self to avoid serious problems with the readability of this. 'Me and me nodded at each other' doesn't make for a good sentence."

Dan: This website sure is full of crap.
Human!Dan: Yeah, I don't want it to ruin our lives. Or life. Or whatever.

Dan: Haven't we agreed that we should address each other as separate characters?
Both: Do-ho-ho-ho-hoh!
  1. Dan!
