I meant to post this nearly a week ago, but looks like I've been so busy with other projects on this wiki that I simply forgot.

The previous thread unanimously decided that https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Blackbox3D.png would be the most suitable image as a replacement. I wish to make this replacement, as:

  • We don't know the license of the old image, but we do know the license of the new one (CC BY-SA 4.0 International attribution to user Krauss on Wikimedia Commons).
  • The candidate is higher quality than the old one.

Voting for 72 hours.

None here, either.

Replacement done.

Proposal: Image replacement

Our current image is copyrighted and low quality. I have found the following (freely licensed) alternatives on Wikimedia Commons:

  1. Minimalistic Black Box
  2. Regular Black Box
  3. Black Box with Graphs

Because there are multiple options to choose from, this proposal will not be timed. It will be closed when there is a unanimous or nearly unanimous agreement to the course of action after at least 48 hours.

You're sure the current image is under copyright? I can't confirm that. Well, better to be safe than sorry.

Of the three you've suggested, #2 is an equivalent replacement - nothing added, nothing taken away. I'd go with that image.

Agreeing with Rob on both points -- I can't find a source for the image with a copyright claim (in fact, everything I could find with an explicit date on it postdates the fork, making me wonder if they got their copies from TVT or us), and if we have to change (which I'm not convinced of) I suppose image 2 is acceptable.

Hmm... I'm pretty sure I'm too hasty about coming to a conclusion. I thought "unknown license = copyright", which, now that I think about it again, is clearly not the case. I apologise for that.

I'll leave this up for 24 more hours to gather some feedback. Then, I'll start another thread to vote for the chosen image as a replacement, assuming we need a replacement at all.

I'm thinking of changing simply because the new images are of a higher quality, with less compression artifacts and a higher resolution.
