I took a look at it... um, yesterday, I think, as part of my ongoing bulldoze through the Workshop. I really didn't think I had much to add to it, except maybe a sentence or two about how "the scenic route" is often a face-saving synonym for "I made a wrong turn and got lost".

Or "taxi deliberately taking a longer than optimal route to jack up the fare" (which may be a trope in its own right).
I'm not entirely sure this is tropeworthy as it currently stands, but I'm open to clarification as to why I'm wrong.
I've fleshed it out a bit since I asked yesterday... It's a setting trope, like Scenery Porn.
