The Adventures of Super Mario Bros 3/YMMV

Everything About Fiction You Never Wanted to Know.

  • Alternative Character Interpretation: Cheatsy is seen by some as a stoner due to his squinty eyes.
  • Awesome Music: The intro/ending theme.
    • "Without Getting Burned" and "Do The Koopa" are good, too.
    • The cover of "Girls Just Wanna Have Fun".
  • Non Sequitur Scene: The end of Recycled Koopa with the statue of liberty.
  • Critical Research Failure: The term "Doomship" is used instead of "airship."
    • As to the Doomship, it was the only airship in the show, unlike the seven airships in the game, so having a proper name isn't a big deal.
  • Ensemble Darkhorse: If the annotated series is any indication people like Cheatsy and Kooky.
  • Fridge Logic: The episode "Do the Koopa" reveals that there is apparently a warp pipe that goes directly from the Mushroom Kingdom to Darkland. This makes one question why, whenever Bowser kidnaps the Princess, does Mario need to go through eight worlds when he can just take this particular pipe.
    • Because they need two warp whistles to get to the pipe.
  • Funny Aneurysm Moment: The infamous Milli Vanilli episode, which got struck by this hard (read: heavily edited) upon syndication because of their 1990 scandal, which happened less than two weeks after the episode aired.
    • Also the episode with Madzilla, who is introduced as a robot being used as a movie filmed in Hollywood. Eight years later, the American Godzilla movie was made.
  • Hilarious in Hindsight: Again, Milli Vanilli's guest appearance. Specifically, the scene where they tell Cootie Pie they can't sing without the rest of the band. Their subsequent attempt to wing it (with Mario & crew) sends everyone running away screaming.
    • When Mario is attempting to transport the White House back to America but sends it on top of the Washington Monument by accident, he says "Maybe I should have read the instructions.".
    • A later episode begins with the Bros., Toad, and the Princess eating "lotsa spaghetti".
    • The episode where the Mario Brothers, Koopa, and Kooky were all turned into toddlers came out before Yoshi's Island did.
    • Milli Vanilli was a guest star in one episode. Come Mario Party 4 several years later, one minigame was called "Blame It On the Crane".
    • In "Super Koopa", we see King Koopa using the game's power-ups, including the Raccoon Suit. Over twenty years later, the False Bowsers in Super Mario 3D Land are depicted with raccoon tails.
  • Memetic Mutation: "Permit me to introduce ya to... RACCOOOOOOOOOOOOOON KOOPA!!!!"
  • Nightmare Fuel: Mario's near-drowning in "The Ugly Mermaid", complete with a scary version of the Ice Land theme.
  • Ugly Cute: Holly Mackerel.
  • Uncanny Valley: The Nipper Plants. Oh God...
    • For some inexplicable reason, it looks like Gilbert Gottfried.
  • What an Idiot!: In the episode "Reptiles in the Rose Garden", Mario and friends see King Koopa's Doomship hovering above. Instead of running for their lives, they stand there like idiots, somehow avoiding getting shot by the ship's gunshots, and as a result, get captured by the Chain Chomps that Bowser sends down after them.
