Sending edits to moderation

Summary by Looney Toons

User wasn't fond of what we had to do to throttle the spam flood.

I do not intend to offend or upset you greatly, but I am not a big fan of the option of edits being sent to moderators and pending reviews.

Looney Toons (talkcontribs)

Sorry about that, but right now with bogus accounts being registered every two to five minutes, and spam pages being created at a rate of one every 45 minutes or faster, you're going to have to get used to it. I will note that if you prove to be a good wiki contributor you can earn automoderated status and not have to wait to see your edits. However, that's not going to be a quick and easy process.

Oh, and in the future, I am not the only admin at All The Tropes, and I am not the one to find and activate the Moderation extension. If you have an issue with wiki policy in general, you will find that you will reach the entire staff if you post a message in the wiki forums instead of on a single mod's personal talk page.

I trust "good wiki contributor" means "contributor of good edits", and is not a comment on somebody else's behaviour.

Looney Toons (talkcontribs)

At this time of year? A bad wiki contributor gets a lump of coal. <grin>

Yes, "good" was intended in terms of quality of edits. But behavior helps. Remember the contributors who decided that they had the right to be jerks and our rules didn't mean anything? That's not being a "good wiki contributor" either.

I’m not a fan of it either, it’s more work for me. But reverting the many bad edits is even more time consuming. :'(

TBeholder (talkcontribs)

Because it's not like user groups (such as autopatrol) exist, or something.

Robkelk (talkcontribs)

Can't rely on the user groups - they don't solve the issue referred to in "But reverting the many bad edits is even more time consuming. :'("

Robkelk (talkcontribs)

The Bureaucrats, with input from some of the Administrators, have voted to extend automoderation to all autopatrolled users. (Okay, not all of the Bureaucrats have voted yet, but there's already a majority.) @TBeholder, your editing should now be back to the way it was before we needed to put this hurdle in place.

I just checked the log - this feature has allowed us to block 44 spam posts in the first 22 hours of operation. we normally get less than 44 spam posts a month.

I vote to keep moderation turned on permanently.

Seconded.

And I move that further discussion not live on my talk page.
